Just bought 285/70/17 tires and was wondering what trimming if any i’d have to do or if they will rub way too much. They’re going on 17x9 -12 offset wheels. I also have a 2 inch leveling kit. I’ve done research and got mixed results does anyone run a similar setup? Thanks

Best way to answer your question.....Mount the tires (already purchased), turn your steering to the full lock, have someone watch.......

    What rubs? Will be answered.

I just don’t have my wheels yet. I should’ve mentioned that sorry.

Then without the wheels......you will need to remove a front wheel and carefully do measurements reference off the wheel mount surface. After that....math will be needed.

Even then, you will likely only be close with small confidence for clearance.

Frankly, I'd wait until the tires mounted on the wheels.

I run that tire size I had to CMC smash the pinch weld cut some plastic and my alienment guy got my caster to 3.5. My wheels are 17 x 8.5 with 4.5bs

Before buying your wheels ask the dealer what they recommend for width/backspacing (offset).I have a similar set up with KO2s but with 8.5 wide wheels and 4.75 backspacing. I removed the front mud guards and had very minimal trimming so I would not rub when off-roading. Your tire choice may make some difference as well.

    Lots--
I ran 285x75x16s and rubbed in full turn both ways in reverse and forward. I did a Cab mount Chop and trimmed plastic and now I don't rub at all. I have a 2.75" Elka Coilover suspension up front but ran 3" spacers up front and 2" blocks in rear with same tires. Still rubbed until Cab Mount Chop.

I also replaced rims with -12 offset SCS rims and replaced control arm. Factory Upper control arm did rub also

To fit 285/70/17's on my 2nd gen, I had to do a 2 inch lift (this is pretty much minimum), Pinch weld fold, Cab Mount Chop, and JBA upper control arms with a +3.5 degree caster. I originally had my 2013 sport wheels that had a +30 offset so I needed 1.25" spidertrax spacers but now I have 17x9 inch rims with a -12mm offset. 3rd Gens are going to be a little better fitting 285's on them but our 2nd gens do need a little more work to get to the point of no rubbing at full chock especially while offroading. Everything that is underlined is pretty much necessary for no rubbing. You can start small and do a couple of these things, but to eliminate all rubbing, all of them are required.

I don't have any rub and didn't have to do any trimming. 285/70/17 KO2's. Bilstein 5100.

That size tire you will have to trim, cab mount chop, pinch weld flatten if you go over anything larger than the speedbump at the mall.

You and I have the exact same truck and same exact tires. Staying on the road is one thing but going offroad while turning or going in reverse in full chock, you will rub without a CMC. Unless yoir truck is a one off unicorn different from the rest of the 2013's I can't see how that is possible.

Does the CMC completely eliminate the rub completely or just get rid of most of it? I also don’t plan on doing any serious off-roading other than driving on the beach, i’m mostly on the road. Do you still recommend these or should I go smaller? I only went that big because I got a good deal on them.

The CMC, done right, with the right wheels and pinch weld fold, you should be all set. In all honesty.....if you haven't bought them yet, personally I would stick with a 265/70/17. I was running those for years before I upgraded to 285's. I would say to go with 275's but you just have to watch the weight if the tire. Moving up to 33's with a 2nd gen is a big commitment. Bigger tires = more weight per wheel = less gas mileage = more money spent on other things like new wheels with a neg offset = less lower end power unless you regear and that is really big money. Like I said....big commitment.

I'm running 285/70/17 on stock 4 runner wheels on my 09 crewcab. It has a 2" leveling kit. I have slight rubbing on the mud flap at full turn.
