I was thinking that some frequencies I would, I can listen to others such. When it comes down to it, I’ll get what ever licenses that I’ll need once I get my use figured out. If we start taking trips out west ever year like we plan, then I’ll go in deeper just to ensure I have all my bases covered, but if I’m just using it once or twice a year it will be a listen only system.

I saw it on the internet, it’s got to be true right.

I know there’s an F150 forum did they have all this as a normal walkthrough and it’s just a known annoyance among the owners community?

Ah I do remember you did that. Yeah, that works too. Last time I went out I precooked the eggs and then heated up in the cast iron for breakfast. That was a damn cold trip though, that didn’t help things.

True! Sorry I forgot to mention that. I know a lot of people use them illegally on gmrs frequencies, any other frequency is illegal without an amateur radio license.

as mentioned - super easy, and for now free! Soon to be 15$ but is lifetime. Gmrs is soon to be 15$ for 10 years but no test, but the only benefit of gmrs over frs in terms of the applications we would use for wheeling, is a cool microphone instead of a handheld radio. So gmrs :notsure: just get frs and call it a day (there’s a loooot more differences but at least for off roading that’s it).

    edit to add two things.

ham tech is super easy. There are two additional levels that aren’t rocket surgery but are a bit more involved.

Also to add here’s a gmrs radio (needs a license but no test) HT, looks like you can do a new antenna and use an external mic and speaker.

Retevis RT76P GMRS Walkie Talkies for Adults,Long Range Rechargeable Two Way Radio,High Power LCD Display Radio 30 CH,for Outdoor Hiking Camping(1 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FWWTZT4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_C8JP7PX7B9KBMSDDYFP0

I don’t think FRS allows that (the external mic connection) for part certification.

Nope. Went through this getting bids on my roof..I did metal so limited companies in my area doing it. I always mention "I'm getting other bids so I'll look through them and decide". Every one of the 3-4 I had out (some more than others) tried to ask further questions. The guy who I ended up hiring, all he said was "I know some of them were telling people my roof doesn't last (I forget why)"..my reply was "I don't tell anyone who else is coming because when I have someone here I want to know what they can do for me, not what someone else can or can't"..he was very professional all around and I'm happy with it

I'm sure proving them wrong was always fun

I know I'm saying this as a middle aged white dude in America, BUT I highly doubt they recognized "they were wrong", they probably found a way to twist it into them still being right and her just cheating the system

Sorry - I went to engineering school, had an interest in robotics and programming all through HS and college, volunteered running high school robotics competitions while I was in college, my cynicism is from the treatment and reactions I saw in all those years.

ANYWAY. On to happier things - planning my road trip, going from RI to TN to Amarillo, then out to LA then back to Jacksonville (crossing the entire southern part of the country, basically), then back up to DC (Not along the coast, I did the croatan and OBX when I was on my quarantine road trip, so probably stay inland this time), then back up home to RI.

Only last night did I realize (might have been this morning). That's F'in SPRING BREAK.

So yes. I am going to (was planning on)

    • Lake Havasu
    • Los Angeles
    • Panama City Beach/that area
    • New Orleans
    • DC
    • Jacksonville
    • Savannah?
    • Vegas
    • Nashville (probably won't be too bad)
    • Austin
    ....During spring break....

I was going to name this trip "GarlicFart's cannonball-ish run" but I might rename it to "Garlicfarts accidentally goes on spring break"

PS my dog's name is pepper. So it will be GarlicFarts and Pepper

Anyway the point of this post was - if anyone has any recommendations for routes, foods, or stops, let me know!

Wow, weird. The only things I tow are dump trailers and car haulers where I wouldn't notice an issue like this since it just needs to charge the brake battery.

I did some reading and it sounds like it sends 12v out that pin if and only if the truck also senses the trailer has brakes. One person speculated that if you have the factory brake controller it will just work no problem but if you don't it never will.

Yep! You nailed it. But even on the forum (I joined today because obviously it'll be needed) it's kinda hard to understand. Most people just rewire the trailer plug and honestly that's the right way to go if you think of it.

Fucking over engineered setup, for sure! And if Yota would just fucking redesign the Tundra into something more reasonable to daily drive, I'd own that in a heartbeat, believe me. I'd have waited for it, but I'd go broke buying GM transmissions.

Well, you might not be charging those brake batteries for you when you do tow. Who knows. I'll be getting the brake controller tomorrow so I'll be less pissed off about it if it makes the process more seamless. Or just not a fucking clown show.

Any recommendations on additions or modifications to this? I am thinking about a paper towel holder and a bottle opener. Was also thinking about adding little drawer organizers for utensils and whatnot for extra organization made from my left over scrap wood. Any thoughts??

To be fair I’m not even a beer drinker. Lol I just figured a bottle opener is like $5 and would be neat.

I have a bottle opener that would be perfect for it that you can have. I was also thinking about the aspects of your utensils being thrown around. Maybe put some foam dividers in between them to snug them in place while you are on the trail.
