Yup was planning on getting a set of Discoverer AT3 4S once the Toyo Open Country R/T's I have wore out, but they will at least run me through the rest of the year. Even though it might be a waste of money I'm debating doing a swap out early so I can make sure I get current batches and quality standards.

Love the look of my Toyo Open Country R/Ts but they are starting to get loud and since 95% of my driving is commuting on highways need a tire that suites both on a offroad needs.

Honestly not sure if Coopers could get worse. I have never owned a good set. For cars or trucks.

My GY Duratracs are wearing evenly, balanced easily, and will probably last 50k easily.

My 1st gen Tacoma is on its 5th set of Cooper tires. 1st was the Discoverer ST. Got 74k on that set. 3 sets of the Discoverer STT. Got about 40 k each set. The current set now are the STT PRO. Hopefully Goodyear doesn’t ruin it.

My fleet sees the exact opposite. The Duratracs rarely last longer than 20k and are impossible to keep balanced.

That has been my experience as well on my old GMC. Awesome tire in the mud muck and snow but not a long lasting tire.

Ran Goodyear for about a decade, started fine, sold round tires back then, then couldn’t get them to balance for crap. Started with the Kevlar MTR, then the next batch, AT’s, don’t remember the name, but would not balance. Running Nitto RG now, quite, smooth, unlike the last Goodyear’s.

I had duratracs on a skinner width oem rim and they wore pretty badly and uneven. When I got a wider rim they worked great. I think that the duratracs work better on the wider spectrum of rim than a skinnier one.

That's interesting. I wish we had more info about rim width and certain tires. Thanks!

On my old fj wheels which are 7.5" wide I had 285's on them and they wore badly. Almost to the point I thought they were defective after 30k miles. On my new scs wheels which are 8.5"s I had both a set of 285's & 265's and they wore great. Even though it says it's within range I wouldn't run that tire in a 285 on a stock 7.5" wheel. I think it has to do with the large squarish treads on the edge of the tire.

This isn't a bad thing. All it means, as stated before, GY will have more of a market share and in acquiring Cooper, they can offer tires to those who cannot afford GY tires. This doesn't mean Coopers are going to change in design/quality, they may however change their process in which these tires are made, but the overall structure of the tire will go unhindered. It's no different than when Michelin acquired BF Goodrich in the middle of the recession in 1990. The tires designs didn't really change (yes, over time it did, corporate evolution), the process did, and it made both companies better. Be patient and see what happens with Cooper

Welp scratch another tire brand off my list. No more Goodyear for me after their BS zero tolerance policy they were pushing last year. Get woke, go broke.
