I've been wondering if the backlighting is bright enough to use as camp lights, but sounds like not really.

It is bright... but I’ll say no. It’s more of an accent than a production/usable light. I mean... if it was pitch black at it was at a decent angle it might work!

Diode says they're not spec'd to replace a 3rd brake light, but I wonder if 2 next to each other would be bright enough. I've seen 3rd brake lights on trucks that are little more than 3 tiny LED dots. If I was any good with solidworks/3D printing, I'd make a housing with 2 of them to replace the 3rd brake light on my 4Runner.

Is that last pic with your ditch lights on too? Could you post a pic like your 3rd pic/wall shot with them on as well to show how they overlap?

The last pic was just my low beams and fog lights, no ditch lights or light bar. I'm going to adjust the alignment this weekend and I'll see if I can get a picture with the ditches on also against the wall.
This picture is my low beams, fog lights, ditch lights, and 32" hidden light bar.

It also gives you the ability to level the cutoff. With the GX I also ran into the issue of fitment using the standard mount, it forced the cutoff to be angled a bit and there was no room for adjustment.

I am adding them as a 4th/5th brake light (a pair below the bumper). I’ll let you know how it turns out as soon as DD actually ships them...

Depending on how fancy you want to get (and what color to a degree you use), these could be made to have three or four different brightnesses each using Diode Dynamics dimmers. You could have full brightness primary, dimmable brightness primary, full brightness back light, dimmable brightness back light. Only limited by what you can imagine and how many wires you want to run (and money....) :)

Combination of the two. Main beam would have 2 output settings if placed on a dimmer, and the backlight would provide a 3rd/4th if setup the same way.

I actually have a switchpros so I should be able to use the dimmer function with the main beam, but i was mainly just curious originally

What he said :) You can have two brightnesses per if you want, so up to four (2 main, 2 backlight). So, if I were psychotic, I could say do the following to my SSC2s mounted on my roof rack:
A switch for full brightness white (controlled off of three buttons, one for all on, one for right, one for left, but now we’re just getting crazy!)
Another switch for dimmed white. So I could use them as scene pods
Have the amber back light come on full brightness with the turn signals, left and right respectively.
And then have the amber backlight come on dimmed with the running lights.
So four functions, one light. But who would be crazy enough to do that?!

.... if that’s you, write me. I’ll send you the plans :D

Fuck... Backtracking it all if one little thing decides to not work would be quite the treat. Can't wait to see what you do with all of these lights I'm sending you.

Mine won’t be quite so complicated. Close, but not quite :) But I did consider it, so I do have the plans drawn up.... given the extra time I have waiting for the SSC2s to ship, don’t be surprised if I end up doing it :)

I would love if Diode could do a set of 4000K white lights with red backlight. Alas.

That option would be nice. But it would clash with my “6000°K for life!” full chest tattoo...

Still trying to make a decision on fogs. I'm really not trying to be cheap as originally wanted Offroad Town but now I'm considering the Diode Dynamics. Well if those are $180, the Rigids aren't much more. Can anyone tell me the difference between these 2 below? Both seem to be Rigids 504814. Is this the fog tested in this thread?

Also these seem to be the same Diode Dynamics SS3 Sports but are called "Worklight" for some reason.

Played around a little bit with the aiming last night while I had a few minutes before my Krav Maga class, and I think I got them pretty good now.

I got some DD SS3 sports for a 12-15 Tacoma hoping the bezel would atleast fit well enough in my TJM T15 bumper to replace the TJM fog lights, assuming I would have to weld some different mounting tabs. Can’t believe they fit almost perfectly with the DD brackets. I had to modify a 10mm wrench to reach the bolts .
