Is there a way to lower my seat?

Hello everyone just recently bought a 09 access cab with 59k and the steering wheel hit my legs! Is there a way to Extend the seat back more or lower the seat or even do a seat swap? I'm sure I could buy a 320-350mm steering wheel but then I'd lose my airbag and cruise control etc. Pleeeease help me, anything would be appreciated!

 

Is there any washers, etc you could take out from under the seat?

 

No unfortunately.

 

Can you adjust the steering wheel higher? There should be a lever underneath it unless some models didn't come with that option.

I'm sure I could have someone with fabrication skills lower the seat bracket but that is my extreme very last resort!

Bummer. Hmm, I would think someone could potentially fabricate something obviously but sounds like a pain. Maybe there's a drop in seat that doesn't quite sit as high? Something aftermarket?

 

Or get an upholsterer to carve out some of the seat foam? That would probably be the cheapest option.

 

I've literally been looking for weeks. There is actually a company the makes lowering rails but unfortunately they don't make them for tacomas!

 

Strange, but why did you buy it?

Options, pick one or a combination of them:

Lose weight.
Modify the seat brackets.
Get a smaller aftermarket steering wheel.
Trade it and get a truck that better suits your size.

Sorry if this sounds harsh. Just the truth as I see it. I would say go for # 1 as it also has health benefits.

 

I dont see how losing weight is going to fix my situation. The steering wheel hits my LEGS not my stomach! I'm 6'5, not 400lbs!

 

If you have a way to shorten my legs to make me shorter then I'm all ears!

Just take a few inches out and glue the pieces back together.

 

You should test drive a vehicle before you buy it. Sell it and get a vehicle that your comfortable in, it will always bother you until you do.

 

The newer Tacoma has a power seat. But, you'd have to get power to the motor. Plus I don't know it the lowest setting would be enough to make you comfortable.
Maybe go to a Toyota dealership and take measurements of the seat in its lowest position, compared to the measurements of your present seat.

 

Perhaps instead of lowering the seat, move it back farther. You could re-drill the seat mounting holes and get a little more leg room. Also, the steering wheel is adjustable, make sure it is fully up and out.

Lowering the seat isn't going to prevent your knees from hitting the steering wheel. You would need to decrease the angle your knee's are at by shifting the seat rearward.
