I use it for staffing offroad races. Folds down for sitting in the cab, but can still talk to race control 5-20 miles away while out in the boonies away from the truck.

If its got the NATO PTT plug, it should work fine, but a lot of the aviation sets are the double plug

Good to know. Either way someone makes an adapter/PTT to run that headset.

I dont doubt it. Or bring a good bottle of scotch to avionics shop and someone might be willing to hook him up.

yeah - the guy who taught my tech class works with the Boston Marathon on a regular basis, they would use an APRS setup for tracking all the vehicles, too. I like those antennas. Might look at one, they're relatively cheap, depends what I get myself into with the radio club I just joined

I passed my technician exam on Saturday and the FCC sent me my license today! Didn’t think it possible that a government agency could be so efficient. KJ7UWX near Portland Oregon. For now just using a TYT UV 8000E hand held and a magnet mount antenna for my taco but we’ll see what the future brings.

Yes but you might have to make your own adapter. A noise canceling Bose is so nice, I understand why you would want to use it for more than just aircraft. I use the Lightspeed Zulu and I stole them so I never dropped $1000 on a headset. The narrow plug is microphone. The wide plug is headphones. Buy some cheap female double plug set, cut whatever ends off that are in it and solder in your own 3.5mm (and 2.5mm?) stereo plugs. What radio are you going to?

    The ft-891.

The headset is super nice. I do fixed wing medevac and the company issued headsets are used and abused. The cool thing about the Bose is that you can actually use a stethoscope in flight with them. There’s a Bluetooth adapter you can buy for a stethoscope and you can actually use the scope in the air. All of our pilots use the a20 so I just went with what everyone is familiar with. I’ve heard the Zulu headsets are nice too I just didn’t have one available to try on.

Scale for scale. This thing is tiny

Doubt it will do much in terms of range BUT it gets the antenna up and outside the vehicle. Hooked it up to my baofeng and was able to still hear the noaa channels :notsure: I’ll try and hit the repeater down in Newport later tonight maybe.

also got my kit pack in so I got my chirp cable thank god. Programming via the baofeng itself blows. I’ll probably end up trying to program in a few repeaters along my route just for giggles and shits.

Amazon fashion brand forgot the usb charger for my extended battery though  it’s a standard size so hope they can get it out to me. I’m wondering if I’ll really need it though - I have the stand charger and have the battery eliminator for inside the vehicle at least. Gotta see if there’s a way I can wire that to USB instead of the car cigarette power charger instead. Probably lower amps though, maybe I could move my 12V to my center console instead o_O

Easiest way to program the Baofeng is via Chirp software. There’s a cable that plugs in the side that connects to a computer via usb.

that’s the easiest way to program most HTs, but dealing with the baofeng is a PITA. I’ve never worked with chirp myself but I’ve seen some YouTube videos it seems miles in a way easier than dealing with the menus on the HT itself. :puke:

I’ll probably make a few different files. One for my general use and then one for my road trip, and then other road trips if I want to see if I can hit some certain repeaters along the way etc.
