I’m in the same boat. I’ve had my hold-up for 9 years and I got it used for the same price. Only had it get a smidge loose after 100 miles of washboard dirt roads. I did buy a couple of 1up used roof racks and they are nice and can be retrofitted to a hitch rack if I want to buy one from 1up. That being said it would have been cheaper for me to just buy the hitch rack straight up but I wanted roof racks so my limousine of a truck didn’t get longer to carry 4 bikes.

I may just head to rei and see what they have in stock.

Couple things that seem to be consistent with the more expensive racks is

    - anti wobble hitch
    - folds up and down for easy storage
    - tilt to allow hatch to open
    - bikes are mounted and locked into position at the tires

Anything else you guys would look at when buying a bike carrier?

You got one? Maybe rei will do one of thisr 20% deals. But normally don't they excuse bike racks?

No. At least if they do exclude racks, it’s a new thing.

Depending on how soon your trip is, they should be doing a 20% off one full price item soon. They typically do this once a quarter with the first one yearly being when dividend checks are issued in early spring.

I'm glad I read these posts and did some research. I don't watch the news.
I'm not filing till after I get my check lol.

The IRS will look at most recent tax return, so if you made more the year before and haven't filed this previous years yet then I'd recommend it etc.. PLAY THE GAME

You know I continually hear the same thing (and not from locals). I really need to get down there.

Nah man, just keep printing it. No downside, right?

BIKE MECHANICS: Brakes seem weak lately. I've done a bleed, cleaned rotors with alcohol, and sanded pads, still just not performing right. Any ideas or should I just replace the pads? XTR Levers, Saint calipers, 203/180Icetech Rotors. PFA.
