    UPDATE:

Okay back from the dealer and guys.. they are just as bewildered as I am. Tons of pictures were taken.

Good news is they broke up all the ice in the door with a pressure washer. So I can get in and get out without ruining the interior or looking absurd.

But the service manager is not optimistic on how Toyota will respond but said one way or another they won't leave me twisting in the wind alone on this so we'll see.

Will post more when I have more to share.

Ice is still in my door jam, and it appears to have taken the paint off the edge of the door. Im not happy.

Is an issue from parking on an incline? Can you just reverse how you park?

I have a '71 Bus that collects water in the door if it is parked nose-up in the driveway. It drains fine nose-down though.

I can only offer what I do with my 2nd Gen.

In the Fall, when nearly all the leaves are down, I clear the door jambs and cowl of debris and flush with water.
During the winter, I brush the snow off the truck and monitor the area.
If Ice begins to form, then it is removed with hot water or a deicer solution, similar to HEET or other brands.

This area is a drainage path from the cowl. Debris, snow, ice have a tendency to collect in this area.

    Preventive is an effective solution.

Is there any thought to reroute the cowl drainage? Is is just run-off or is there a drain? I'd go look but my truck is covered in snow. :)

Nope. That would involve modifications to the the firewall, cowl, fenders........Lord knows what else.

The preventive measures I use are effective and don't take much time and are low cost.

I suppose you could tear the truck apart to implement a $xxxx fix for a $2 problem.

Unless you are unable to be with your vehicle for a few days or weeks. I believe my build up happened due to a nasty rain/mix/snow storm and I went out a day after that to finding a big ass block of ice down there.

That's when you use hot water or the deicer.

You can pour the hot water down the cowl. When water begins to flow, open the door.

I’ve had bad experiences with using hot water in the winter, so my brain went to the small hammer.

    Use reasonable judgement.

    Boiling water = no
hot water for washing hands = yes.

Don't pour on windshield or glass.

I had the same problem with my 2nd gens. The only reason I don’t have an issue with my 3rd gen is that I now have a garage to park in.

I also found prevention was the best solution. You really had to keep up with clearing the snow off, especially after parking the truck with a warm engine and using hot water to remove the ice.

    +1 clearing snow.

When I go out to clear the driveway after a snowstorm, I use a shop broom to brush the snow off the truck.

Don't be a door knob. :smack:

Said nothing about pouring water into locks.

Only into the cowl to melt the ice at the bottom of the door jamb.
