Switched to Amsoil... and now this...WTF

Take a look at these pics...I switched to amsoil oil and was just checking my oil level ( after 6k miles) and found this shit !!

I DONT off road at all....99% hwy miles....

Any Ideas ?? i will change it when I get home to M1 but THIS is making me VERY nervous..

Thinking bout getting oil analysis done...anyone know who is a reputable company that does this ?

Any thoughts ??

BTW, I also just changed my front Diff fluid too and it looked kinda reddish...( dealer changed it)

is there any way tranny fluid could get into the engine or the front diff ?

 

x2. my truck is not my dd so when i do get to run it i make sure that its run at operating temps for at least 15-20 mins. i also change my oil at 6 month intervals to try to prevent moisture buildup regardless of the miles the oil has. i have been running amsoil 0-30 since day one.

 

X2 on the moisture. But I don't think that is normal. Drain your oil, and if it looks like what it does on your oil filler neck, then something is wrong.

 

moisture yes....amsoil has nothingt o do with it as stated....

 

agreed with all above. My amsoil does this, as does my mobile1 with this motor. Short trips in cold weather cause the buildup. I have a 3mile commute and my truck never warms up in winter and the filler neck looks like someone poured frothed peanutbutter or vaseline down there...

I will actually try to take a longer route to work sometimes just to get everything really up to temp once in a while when it gets cold out.

 

This is very common on vehicles driven for short distances during cooler temps. Multiplied even more so by the length of the filler neck.

 

I drive 300 miles round trip daily @ 70-80 mph ALL intersate/ freeway....this isnt from short trips....

I dont think its the oil...Amsoil is reputable I'll switch back to M1 tonight and see what happens.

I used a trd filter I bought on fleabay ( yes it was new)

in all the time I had my Tundra and even this Taco I have NEVER seen oil that bad. !!

is it possible to get any other fluids into the oil from something that is cracked or whatever??

 

It's normal. Nothing is wrong.

It's engine mayonnaise. Oil + water (condensation).

It does no harm and goes away if the oil heats up to normal op temperature. A long highway trip usually does it, but the Tacoma has that long plastic oil neck that might keep that end of it cool enough to prevent driving off the water from that small amount of oil.

Nothing to worry about.

ETA: You might try wrapping the oil neck with something insulating to keep the heat in and see if that helps. Changing oil is not going to do anything for it and will be an unnecessary expense.

 

Mine looks just like that, if the oil you drain out looks milky you got issues. I bet the only oil in your motor that looks like that is in the oil fill neck, like others have said its normal don't worry about it.

 

Dodge and Chrysler products v6 engines have a mile of posts regarding this, apparently they get it real bad from short trips.

 

My mother-in-law has a 4.7L V8 Grand Cherokee and it does the same thing (with Mobile 1).

 

Check your other vehicle,(S), they will also have it.
Common up north, my Honda Civic had it and my dodge Durango had it also.

Just curious reading this thread since I use Mobil1, I've never noticed this, and I believe everyone that it is normal, but can it be harmful (not even so much harmful) should I do like viperstd and just let it get warmed up to try and avoid it?

In short, although normal, should I try to avoid this? (note: I have not ever seen this problem on my truck, just curious)

 

when i was in germany, i had this all the time and i only made short quick trips. used mobil 1. its the plastic filler neck that causes this. doesnt matter the type of oil
