I am ready to order a "mild" lift kit for my '16 Tacoma TRD Sport DCSB 4x4. I won't be doing any off-roading and hoping to install 275/70/17 BFG KO2's. I'm hoping for a softer ride vs stuff.

I'm looking at ordering a complete OME kit with 888 coils and the softer valving shocks with Dakar leaf pack.

    or

Bilstein 6112/5160 performance shocks with a Deaver AAL.

I don't want to install new UCA's and from reading on here it doesn't sound like the diff drop is going to be necessary.

I've read numerous lift pages on here but didn't see anything comparing these two options.

Looking for 2-2.5 inches of lift and soft ride. Thanks for any input.

    Hey Anthony,
If you want to give us a call here at Toytec we can get you a kit that works best for your needs. Either kit will be good, the biggest difference is that the 6112 is going to be a 2.5 inch diameter shock body whereas the OME is 2.0. Both will give you about the same amount of lift. New UCA's are not necessary but i do usually recommend them for 2.5 inches of lift for the best alignment and tracking on the road. Diff drop again is not required but we all use them here and it helps more than it hurts in my opinion.
Let us know if we can put something together for you or answer any questions.

^ Toytec makes good stuff. My Toytec Boss had exceptional on road characteristics and performed very well off road.

6112 is not soft, but I do love mine from the performance aspect. If you're looking for soft just go 5100's all the way around.

Thanks for the replies. So 5100s all the way around will be an upgrade from the stock shocks and provide a plush ride?Should I use stock coils or get an OME 887 spring installed and set them on the 0 clip?

I'd give @ToyTec Lifts a call and see what they can work out for you! The BOSS setup is very nice and valved specific for the weight of your Tacoma.

The 6112's are a little more on the firmer side and the OME setup is valved and sprung a little firmer...

I have 5100's all around on my 3rd gen, while I've got a lot of weight added, the ride is about the same as my stock TRD OffRoad bilsteins. I got my full kit from headstrong OffRoad and Marie really broke it down for me and got the setup I was looking for:

I can't say enough about the Boss Kit from Toytec. Wasn't sure if you had considered it yet. It rides like a dream.

5100s on my sport felt similar to the stock ride. I wouldn't refer to them as soft. I would consider the OME with the valving that is specifically set up to be softer. I will most likely go that route when I have some more cash. That's just my opinion tho.

So, I've come up with 3 options that I'm considering.

    1. Bilstein 5100's with OME Coils, Deaver AAL, and strut assembly for $685.

    2. Bilstein 5100's with OME 887 Coils, Dakar Full Leaf Pack, and strut assembly for $950.

    3. Complete OME Kit with the 90021 shocks, 888 Coils, Dakar Leaf Pack, Strut Assembly, and DS spacer for $1,225.

Is the Dakar Leaf Pack worth $300 more than the Deaver AAL? Is the lift in the rear about the same?

Would I be better off going with option 1 since I won't be off roading and only doing this for a better ride and fitting 275 tires? The difference in option 1 and 3 would pay for my TRD wheels.

If only money were no option...

Following because I think we have around the same budget and use. Im curious what OME coils in option 1 you would consider. Im also a little torn in keeping some rake vs leveling for towing and hauling. Its possible going level and using the Dakar Leaf Pack would still work keeping the truck level even when pulling a load.

Me too... Very curious... I have the same dilema but I'm between OME, Bilstein 6112, and Elka level 1. All for relatively the same amount of price and height.

Love thread revivals. @wildcataz this wont be much help, thread is 3.5 years old. But 3.5 years later I still like the bilstein 6112/5160 setup on my truck

UGH I cant decide between this set up either.

Im considering the OME and 6112. Do they 6112 need to be rebuilt? How often? 80k? Guess it depends on use....

6112s are digressive, digressive doesnt ride like a Cadillac..

Every 10,000 to 50,000 miles depending on use.

Have about 50k on mine, still pass the bounce test though rears have been weeping for about a year. I think the first to go will be the rear reservoir lines rotting because new england but I think they will hold out a couple more years. If I get 7 years and 80k out of them, they will have done their job and get swapped for whatever the new hotness is (8xxx bypass anyone?)
