    Good question. Someone here will know. I've just thought of it as a pulse dampener or "snubber" of some sort.

    I believe i read the same somewhere. Essentially it smooths the vacuum pulses out to the evap system.

    This..... It's called either a vacuum reservoir or vacuum surge tank and is part of the evap system.

    Thanks for the replies ladys and gents. Would this be beneficial to replace? I Am just going through and replacing egr and small random expenses that I have neglected over 210k miles.

    Nope leave it. Also, there is no such thing as an EGR on the 2nd gen taco v6's

    i am having trouble with 2011 tacoma been sluggish and took of Vacuum Surge Tank and mouth blow through it and there was no resistance, anyone, is that normal. Thanks

    Predator tube steps, Ranch Hand grill guard, Magnaflow CatBack exhaust, Toyota tool box & bed mat, 2LO Module by @Up2NoGood, Rearview Compass/Temp Mirror, Tune by @JustDSM.
    Yes the surge tank is just a hollow can, think of it as a muffler for the EVAP system.
    An EVAP problem shouldn't cause any drivability issues anyway.
