    Hello all,

I recently bought a 2013 DCLB trd sport this January with 116k on it. I have slowly been doing all the fluid and easy maintenance I am able to (I have no prior experience working on vehicles and use the many youtube videos there are on tacomas) since I have no maintenance records other than the vague car fax report. So far, I have done the rear diff , transfer case, spark plugs and soon front diff.

For the spark plugs I went with NGK laser iridium's due to there extended life. Upon changing out all the plugs at 118k, I realized that the plugs I replaced may have been the factory plugs i.e. Denso and NGK on opposing sides.

Should I be concerned about any issues these may have caused? In the photo you can see how eroded the tips were and a few threads were lightly covered in a brown fluid. The engine ran pretty well up to replacing imo but I can definitely notice easier start-up and idling now.

    No reason for concern
Touota keeping both spark plug vendors happy. Very common.

If they caused issues, you'd know it..specifically if they were frozen in the head. But you said it, job's done and runs smoother..good work and welcome!

Better to change them when you decide to versus when they decide not to work. Learned that the hard way as a teenager

    Not hardly.

I track every tank of gas. My mpg is the same since I got it 5 years ago.

    It ain't broke, I ain't fixing it.

It's not just about MPG. It can compound and cause other issues, such as incomplete burning which can lead to excessive carbon buildup, which can lead to other issues such as high compression, poor timing, or even complete failure. Even iridium spark plugs generally suggest replacement every 100k. It's a cheap insurance policy.

    Ok.

I'm on my 3rd Tacoma. My last one went 250k miles on the second TB and plug set. I'm not going out of my way to introduce problems that aren't there. When I hit 300k miles, I'm ready for a new truck. The maintenance is the next owners problem.

Whatever you want to do, man. It's your truck. But this is exhibit A for when people post about if a 2XX,000+ mile truck is worth the money.

I have a 2013 as well the V6. Changed my factory plugs at 110K they looked great and the truck still remains amazing. Have a little over 150K on it now.
