That is probably the tightest swingout and tire carrier to the rear I have seen. Looks great man.

Oh and to add if you break a shaft JD can get you just the shaft quickly the outers still use the OE toyota outer joint and the inner is well 934. The part that goes into the trans is a custom JD part that he cut and welds a factory inner stub to. I am going to carry one complete axle with me as a spare that's it. But if I break one depending on what I broke I can source parts easily and completely and easily rebuild them from end to end which I really like.

I’m curious to see it all come together. What made you want to invest more in the Tacoma platform vs building a truggy or something else?

Dad hasn't let go of the 1st gen yet :rofl:I'm gonna build one eventually. Part of the reason I haven't built a buggy of sorts yet is finances the truck is there and can drive to and from. For me to have a dedicated trail rig I'd need/want a full size truck and trailer. Another main thing is I live in an apartment right now I don't have the storage ability. Eventually I will eventually, but some other things have to change first.

@Dayman Karate here is a D44 breaking a chomoly shaft and the ears and stuff that hold the ujoint. Now just think if that joint wasn't just turned but also articulated up or down it wouldn't take much more to break. Now if you could pair an RCV outer stub onto an axle like what JD fab makes that would be much better. JD Fab is probably closer to being able to do that than solo and the way they set their axles up.

I studied and read a lot for a long time before I made my decisions well over a year. Go to the LT BS thread and just read. It also helped that I have a buddy who had a LT 4runner and we talked a lot about set up and different kits.

Good point. I could have been well into a truggy build with what I put into the Taco the past year, but decided I wanted something that can fit a family and not have to be trailered an hour to go ride somewhere that’s worth it. I might still build one in the future and keep it street legal. It’ll be that or long travel this truck if it doesn’t take away too much from my utilitarian uses. I’m constantly getting building supplies for home and stuff for work. I could use my company’s truck with a full size bed which would make more sense probably, but who wants to drive a Nissan all the time haha

It's just me and my daughter so I can get us a Corvette and we'd be good  Nissans suck unless you have the new titan XD that's the only one that interests me. My 1st gen truggy will essentially be a street legal bouncer look up 6oh_taco on IG that's what I want to build. I'll be skating some very grey areas of legality but unless I get busted at an inspection station I'll be good.

Yeah that’s badass. I would love to build something like that. I’m amazed at what passes as a vehicle here in Bama, so it probably wouldn’t be an issue haha. I have to transition back into doing house reno before doing anything else on the truck. That’ll give me time to wheel this one good and see what I really want in an off-roader.
