I am ashamed to say it was almost 70 here today and I didn't go riding. :( I did get in a couple of rounds of disc golf though.

I may be interested in it. How is the overall condition? Any dents, scratches, etc? Does it have OEM fairings? Fairly stock or modified?

Mostly stock, I think was dropped, no dents that he can remember, OEM fairings.
    Stand probably comes with it

Unfortunate that it is yellow. I am just not a fan of that color 996. Red is so much more desirable. I'd have to get it for a lowball price or face severe buyer's remorse. How valuable is that garage space?

Changed plugs and back to running fine. Two were definitely fouled/not clean. Unsure if it was 1/2 or 3/4 cylinder.

    Bike almost has 18k miles

Fuel today with 10% corn juice can turn to crap as fast as three weeks unlike the fuel of my day that would stay good for almost a year in the gas can. The best fuel stabilizer I have yet founds is called Start Tron. The water in fuel now will cause aluminum corrosion (looks like white dust) to form and foul injectors or jets and jet rods. Check your mass air flow sensor ( if you have one ) for build up. Do not touch the fine little wire it is very easily damaged. Clean it with the correct spray fluid. One other thing that causes low rpm problems is the seals or gaskets on the back of carbs and throttle body to manifold and manifold to cylinder head. They always like to shrink and leak in the winter.

Nice bikes but a parked Ducati without service records and history can be a real crapshoot. Not sure with the 996 but I remember the 916 when it came out I had a friend who owned one. Fortunately Geoff was a former road racer with lots of connections in that world. Maintenance on those things was a bitch. I recall the engine needs dropped down out of the frame to check the valves in the top cylinder head. If that bikes been sitting that long ALL of the fluids should be changed and that means pretty much tearing the forks apart for a rebuild, changing piston seals in the brake calipers and checking the caliper pistons for corrosion, in addition to engine oil and filter. As someone already state red is the color most people will want just out of tradition. Check the born on dates on those tires. Rear looks like a Michelin PR2 and while that' long been my personal fave for the FJR it could be well past its life expectancy.

Not trying to rain on the seller's parade here. He'd be well advised to get it running so test rides can be done and then set a price accordingly. Selling as-is he might take a bath on it.

Bar job is complete-ish! :D Haven't had a chance to test her out....but just sitting on her and squeezing the levers and all, clutch lever feels tighter than I recall....is this a thing? Can the clutch lever be too tight? Obviously if I loosen the cable up a little, lever loosens up, but what's the correct adjustment? And throttle seems like it had a hair more take up before...maybe loosen that a hair too. Supposed to rain the next few days though. :ballchain:

Did you take the time to lube the clutch cable while it was disconnected? Good time to do the throttle cables too. I know on Sporties and Buells the way I was always told to adjust the clutch cable was to pull the ferrule end of the cable away from the clutch perch and measure the gap that creates. Target gap was normally around 1/8". Make sure however you routed the cable with the new bars that you don't have have any places where it can bind up traveling around or over/under anything else.

I did not lube the new clutch cable, but I’m sure it came pre-lubed if you will cause the adjustment nut was oily when I was adjusting. :notsure:

However, I will tinker with that gap you mentioned. I did not verify that. Thanks again!

Man I haven't ridden in like two weeks. The fiance got real mad at me when I rode in at 13 degrees  the weather just hasn't let up over here. It's either been snowing with nasty roads or 40+ mph winds. I'd honestly take the snow over the wind.

How many miles? Having owned and raced Ducati’s for years (and rebuilt my share), the main and rod bearings are what goes (usually taking cases, crank, and most of everything else with it). That or a valve collet cracks, dropping a valve. If its got rod knock, you’re pretty much there. I would need to hear it run.
