The "driver" is figured at 150 lbs.

    Full tank is included.

    Not in the Cargo number.
Typically in the "unloaded weight" number.

100% does not include driver. As was mentioned after my post, some trucks include fuel in their rating, some do not. You would need to verify in the manual if that's the case with the Tacoma.

150-175lbs. My particular truck is listed on Toyota’s website as having 1275lbs of payload standard. The actual owners manual and door jamb sticker says 1100lbs.

regardless of whether it does or doesn't include driver and fuel, isn't it fair to say; if a 150lbs guy and topping off the tank puts you over the limit,,,, well then you were already waaayyyy too heavy to begin with? I mean, if someone needs to use the bathroom to get over the scales,,,,,

If you want to know the actual payload of your truck as it sits, you have to weigh it.

That weight difference could be anything. Floor mats, bed liner, leather int, sunroof or any other number of things.

The advertised cargo capacity will be based on the lightest weight truck in the model line. Its MARKETING.

Your actual CC will be the GVWR - actual weight. Every mod will change your weight. Go to a CAT scale with full tank, all mods and you otherwise truck empty, then subtract this weight from the GVWR. Now, you have your exact CC for your truck and your mods.

    Great suggestion!
My buddy weighed his combo to adjust the weight distribution hitch and load, as he wanted to do it right. Well, this was first trailer, so he drove it around a little to get used to it and to make sure nothing needed fixed before their big trip out West last year. The day before they were set to leave, he was just being curious and weighed it again, I can't remember the number,,, but he went home and had momma unpack, rethink, and then repack. Initially she threw everything and anything in the trailer while my buddy was at work, not even understanding how much weight she packed in there. Point being, most don't realize how quickly the the weight adds up.

What is everyone experiencing when you go over the GVWR? Does it happen when you are 100 lbs over? 500 lbs over or 1000 lbs over? What happens... or what do you think will happen?

I drove 3000 miles across Alaska, Canada and half the US with my 2011 in excess of 1000lbs over GVWR and towing a 3500lb trailer without a single problem. The truck with a full tank of gas and pretty much nothing in it weighed 5220lbs so its daily driven weight for several years was just about the GVWR.

Edit: After that I bought a bigger truck until I didn't need to tow/haul as much. Now I have an Audi SUV that funnily enough has a higher payload and tow rating than the Tacoma does.

Don't get me wrong crazysccrmd. I'm not in the least bit concerned. It just seems to be a hot topic on here on more than one occasion.

It’s that one accident in front of you. 99% of the times it’s not a problem. But that one time you need to stop short to keep from hitting that school bus......

Ok, so you're saying if you're hauling or towing heavy, you should leave more room in front for longer stopping distances. Isn't this what the big trucks do too?
This doesn't answer my original question.

It does, an overloaded truck is a danger to all on the road, the numbers don’t lie

What numbers are you referring to that don't lie?

You could argue that if the GVWR is 5600lbs and the max unbraked trailer weight is 1000lbs then the truck is essentially rated to stop and control up to 6600lbs. In fact it's probably safer stopping that weight with it all on the truck and not behind it swinging around.

Around here the maximum unbraked trailer weight is 3000 lbs. Even with that, unless the roads are slippy, braking is not a problem if you just don't go too fast and leave more room. Common sense does play a role in towing with truck. Other then road handling, which experience will play a part in, are there any expected, problems with the truck? For example, is the truck going to break in half or break an axle?

Toyota’s site has different curb weights for each different trim and cab configuration.
