You had my interest at “Blakey can be done in stock”. Unfortunately, I am working tomorrow, but will be on the lookout for future trips.

You have that sweet off-road machine as a loaner...But in all seriousness, I wish you could come as well. Depending on when the get together is at your place we'd be down to swing by!

I'm blessed with an awesome FiL, hopefully you are too, enjoy the time!

Ill try to plan something a little further in advance next time. Starting a new position soon that will allow me to have every weekend off so hopefully more local camping trips this summer.

I went to the restaurant probably 13 years ago now and loved it but haven't been back since. I know they have concerts and other events in the summer, hopefully we can find a nice river spot! :fingerscrossed:

Hello All, I live in Annapolis but if anyone ever does a meetup/trail ride/wrenching/goes to play hide-and-go-seek then I'd be happy to join. living on your own is really boring lol. I see theres some meet-up type talk, so I'll check back of there are any plans I could join in on. I'm happy to lend a hand, tool, or hold the flashlight while you say bad words lol. I go to school at Virginia Tech and my family lives in Mechanicsville VA, but I'm up here for an internship this semester and wanted to reach out to fellow Toyota owners.

I've got a pretty much stock 05 4runner, and I've been doing most of the maintenance myself and making writeups on T4R.org as documentation. For off-roading, I've and been to AOAA once. Yoinked my radiator pretty good on an ice chuck, but looking to get back out for some trail rides soon. Heres my lump of metal

We need to send you to a re-education camp haha :boink:

p.s. I'm old and I still wasn't sure what was being referenced. But I do recall now that is the British word for cigarette and also a bundle of sticks. Funny how language can change in a relatively short time.

Stuff like that always makes me ponder, after watching the movie "The professor and the Madman" I was talking to my wife like I was from the 1800's for a solid day. I always find myself lost in these rabbit wholes of thought.. one days its language, the next its if 33 will fit without a lift ... :smack:

YES, indeed!!!! I'm sooo blessed with all my amazing in-laws (and their cousins, too!!!), my FiL is amazingly handy and I wish I met my wife a decade earlier just to have 10 more years learning, growing and gaining REAL educational and practical stuff. I love my Dad (and he's taught and passed on many skills, etc., just in other life aspects) but my FiL has passed on many many "man life skill" type skills, knowledge and knowhow just in the 6 years I've known him.

Growing up, my memories of "wrenching" with Dad involved projects like a kids bike, metal swing set, mountain bike...maybe another similar project or two, and my memories are usually less than "fun times with Dad." These sessions included "Dad Stories," no matter what we were doing, which usually involved his past "mechanical" efforts always starting out with the original parts, but when he put it back together he somehow always ending up with extra parts, to almost getting kicked out of shop class. I remember these stories of him being terrible at shop class, but he always said it was mostly on him, but he said he constantly was more worried about the "reliability" of the shop teacher and their instruction given the teacher was missing his first 2 fingers on one hand and a thumb on the other...

And so concludes todays "Greg Story"

I think all of us on this thread will be able to pass on some relevant handyman skills to the next generation. I can totally relate to your story about your dad. My dad doesnt follow sports at all and the extent of his handyman skills is installing a lightbulb. The handyman gene skipped a generation from my grandfather, who was a great handyman. He was one of the pioneers of radio, worked for RCA his whole career, and could fix anything electronic. He must have looked at my dad and said to himself "WTF, where did I go wrong?"

    Rite.

I'm not sure how it actually came about (what I posted). but from what I understand, A few guys started measuring the front and rear suspensions in stock form on different trim levels of the JK/JKU early on. Then determined that they came up within a 1/4" maybe 1/2" in difference in height, minus the Rubi models which sat a tad higher. So it was suggested to take all measurements from those locations pre-lift / post lift.. I'd say it's a 50/50 split on people actually doing that in the JK crowd.

Now, I gotta ask.. Are you running linear or progressive springs?
