Yep, that's why I would check the material type before buying. Nylon is a recovery strap/kinetic rope (stretch). Polyester is tow strap (no stretch).

It hasn't been mentioned (edit: actually it has been), but the recovery point that you attach to on the vehicle is just as important. Make sure you don't snatch from a factory shipping tie down point. I really like the Factor 55 hitch link for the receiver hitch in the rear. For the front on a stock truck, something fully enclosed would be better than the oem open hook. That's technically for towing, not snatching. Consider in the event you detach a metal piece from the vehicle on one end of your stretched snatch strap, well you're gonna have a bad day. That becomes a dangerous projectile. Could kill someone, or yourself. Just be safe and aware. Be smart and don't get in a hurry!

Great reminder. I remember my dad trying to give me his old chains and tow straps to save me money. It was hard for him to understand why I wouldn’t just use what he always used.
But I feel much safer using the right stuff.

I keep some chains in the truck but it’s only for use with my hi lift winch kit. Would never use it to pull someone out.

Definitely need to get this setup going until I have a winch one day. It's all on "the list." That should probably be in all caps... THE LIST. :bananadead:

Because a come along is only useful as a come along. Hi lift has alot more uses and I already carry one so why lug both around?

My buddy's car was stolen today. Please keep your eyes open for it if you live around Vancouver or Portland.

    That sux!

A gold Camry? Not my first thought on a car to steal, but then again it will completely blend in with all surrounding cars and be less obvious to spot. Probably an opportunistic swipe.

The best tool in any recovery kit is a basic shovel. You can get very far with a shovel and some work. Add in some wood boards and you have some really cheap options to help get you or your friends unstuck.

    [/QUOTE]

A shovel is a must! And required in some areas in the dry season along with your fire extinguisher.

But yeah, you can do A LOT with your basic spade in regards to recoveries.

fingers crossed they get it back. I work in east Vancouver and a few years ago my coworker had his beater civic he commutes with to keep miles of his tundra stolen out of the parking lot. The police found it ditched in another parking lot a few hours later.

Apparently the 90s civics only had like 5 different keys so it’s popular with thieves. They just carry a key ring with all 5.

Read that after seeing it in this thread:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wes-siler-is-an-idiot-and-not-because-of-this-article.709630/

It seemed to really trigger people but Wasn’t the most informative article. Basically a few pages to say re-gear if you put bigger tires on and adding weight will weigh things down. Duh.

Seemed like the authors friend whose truck is referenced in the article didn’t really know what he was doing when modding. It was all common sense stuff that has been well known since people started modding trucks. He bolted on abunch of crap to look like everyone on Instagram without doing the mechanical mods to like gears make them work.

    Yeah-my take away was regear.
Edit: he did have some valid points too.

Regear for sure if you're going to run a built up truck on 34's. Solid point about undersized brakes for that much weight too.

I love my truck and I'm not going to go nuts building it up, but every time I put money into it, there is a little voice inside my head that goes, "wtf are you doing, you know you'll eventually end up in a full-size."

Counterpoint: How many times you've been on a narrow trail, passing a full size rig with an inch between you, and thought, good thing I'm in a mid-size.

That blows. Somebody just stole a lifted F350 right out of the City Hall parking lot in broad daylight up here in Vancouver 2 days ago.

They got the guy yesterday. Transient/Meth head, the back of the truck was full of other stolen tools & they ripped apart everything in the dash. At least he got it back, I guess.
