Seems to me the bed is poorly designed... shouldn’t be so hard to keep water out! Fail.

All truck beds, for YEARS have had the same issues. Where the canopy meets the rear of the cab/front of the box, they had leaking issues.
    It's not just Toyota.

All truck beds leak water /dust with a canopy on them, it’s a matter of what’s acceptable. Just my opinion, Ford,GM,Toyota, they all leaked somewhat.

Maybe RSI should make matching beds

They do! Its called the tray and canopy. Most of the campers, that are more campers than shell just slide in and are their own seal. Alu-cab Khaya and Four-wheel campers etc. They usually replace the tailgaters well with a large swingout door or doors.

Personally I'm leaning towards the camp of let the water in but give it an easy escape route. I don't sleep in mine but the 3 dogs do. If its wet out they are usually wet and muddy anyway. For me its mostly keeping mold and condensation which all windows do an excellent job of.

I have seen LEER and A.R.E. toppers leak, it has nothing to do with the toppers but the design of the bed itself.

Great info. I actually just got through searching youtube and came up with the ESI seal and butyl tape, then I came back to the forum to see that you all had suggested it.

The Double Bulb type is good.
I don't know about the ESI type, as some seals, are actually too thick to compress.
I've tried numerous different seal tapes over the years.

I scratched my head, the way canopies are attached.
The sides get clamped/screwed, why not the front as well?
Don't mind me, I'm thinking out loud is all.

Since the cap is modular, it would be cool if they introduced a tailgate replacement ambulance door panel for the back.

They advertise a rear hatchback for some of the commercial models.

I haven’t seen anything that replaces a tailgate. They have the smart tray, entire bed replacement, but nothing for the EVO line of caps. That I’m aware of at least.

That’s pretty sweet, I’d seriously consider adding a door that if they offered it as an add on to just swap out the rear modular panel for something like that. One one hand, I’d like ambulance doors for clearance on the back, on the other hand that full lift hatch also serves as a canopy.

Got my cap installed today. I have the same 2 wire harness problem as others reported. Did anyone successfully get a 3 wire harness from RSI?

I haven’t done anything, been pretty tied up with work. I just removed the harness for the time being so I don’t have the brake light in the cap, but my tail lights function normally.

    its finally on!

only issue I had was trying to fill the gap on the top of the bed rail, and my 3rd brake light doesn't work. need to get a tester and find out what's wrong.

other than that love the look.

You are also missing a tail light, driver side, lower. Check that Y harness they sent. Remove it and at least get your tail light back.

It seems to be, I got my cap about 10 days ago and same issue. A couple people here have posted as well.

The Y harness they supply is 2 wires instead of 3, it fits onto the back of the bulb socket, and essentially cuts out the tail light when you install it. I haven't reached out to them yet.
