Um, I thought the first 2 years of service was included free with the vehicle...??

Those two Items are regular line items for the 10k/2y service...

    https://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/owners/maintenance-schedule

There are 2 zerks on the front driveshaft (removed on the 20's and on Later 19's if memory serves) that you sometimes have to take out two 10mm bolts out for a heat shield to access one of them..

So that is under 20mins... for a slow guy... if he was meticulous wiping out the grease from the U-joint that gets squeezed out. (cough)

Then to tighten the prop shaft bolts, you put a tourque wrench on 8 bolts after looking up the spec on TIS...

If your lucky he checked the two bolts for the carrier bearing too.. (cough)

And the truck is already on the lift .... (cough) (cough)

    What is their shop rate?

I bet they didn't do any of the fluid level checks for the diffs, trans and transfer case that is also listed as their line item included checks... (cough)

(p.s. always a good idea to put some anti-seize on those fill plugs before they are put back in, since the dealer never checks the levels people have found them seized to shit years later when they go to change their fluid)

So to answer your question of "fair price"

    (cough) (cough)

Oh better go get a Covid check, I just developed a bad cough and gotta go... oh look a squirrel!

You should swap for a non-scooped hood

Went to upper james once for a broken windshield and suspension rattle and i was returned the truck with the same windshield and there's no rattle we checked the heat shields. Even though warranty issues and visits at other dealerships are all on the computer system, the dealerships said they dont count that as diagnosis. Really just them getting teh extra visits like a dr.. Knowing that waste a time would be in my future I caved and went back to get the final warrany items sorted out

Swapping a scooped hood would be at least a wash if not a profit

There's no way any dealer would go through all that.

I did all of this on my own. yes, a bit later but still I know it's done.

Greasing shaft, UCA ball joints and checking fluid levels with every oil change since I'm already under the truck....

Ya so here is my thinking...
Day 1...remove hood scoop. Drink beer as I accomplished something automotive.
Day 2... clean hood scoop. Drink beer as I need a hair of the dog from last night.
Day 3....cut the wrap ...then refer to Day 1's activity.
Day 4 ....fire up the woodstove in the garage and actually wrap it. Once again drink beer.
Day 5 ....see day 4...but install hood scoop..then continue with day 4.
Day 6...see if anyone else is interested in the process.

You have to develop "relationship" with the service advisors,

Wash the truck before you bring it in and do the walk around with the service advisor (they can still do the walk around and maintain 6' distance)
    - review all the items to be checked....
    - point out that Ugga-Duggas on the skid plate bolts tend to break off the weld nuts inside the frame so you will be checking the skid plate bolts when you pick it up...
    - Ugga-Duggas on the wheel nuts cause the brake pedal to pulsate because the tourque is uneven and the thin drums on the back warp a little unevenly..
    - mention that since they are checking the fluid levels as per the Toyota checklist and it's included in your service you'd like the threads on the fill plugs for your diffs, trans and transfer case to get a dab of never seize (will leave a silver ring of the grease at the fill plug to make it easier to spot if they've done it or obvious if they just wiped it on around)
(when they deny that the fluid level checks for those items is not included have them pull up the Toyota site for the maintenance items, it is on there)
-Then since they have that list up on their screen review all the other items that they generally skip.
    - bring safety glasses and steel toe shoes and ask to have a look under the vehicle before they take it down from the hoist.
(preferably when they have the tires and rear drums off too)
    - mark your tires so you know if they were rotated.

What ever you do just don't take it to Upper James Toyota... Lol you'll think Ancaster was an F! pit crew in comparison,
Burlington or Red Hill are better if you "do the above dance" with them.

There is a non-scooped hood on the Ontario Tacoma Union FB page for $180. It's red but you could paint it or put a wrap on it etc. Or go redneck and leave it non-matching. I think scooped hoods are worth a lot more than that.

When my brother in law first saw the truck he said
    "oh it's a performance truck",
I asked him why it thought that?
"Oh because it's got a hood scoop"

    ( He's a Civil-Eng so you'll have to forgive him)

That is a great strategy! You need to develop the relationship and their job is to maintain that relationship so they get your business.

I service my new to me RAV4 at Exeter Toyota and certainly let them know how anal I am about things and knowledgeable. I always make sure that I speak with the service manager about my service procedure.

I am usually am picking up parts for my taco while I am there So lots of interaction with the staff is good. They were even nice enough to pump me bulk gearbox oils for the taco last year When I brought my own empty jugs.

They even allow me to bring my own 5W-30 Mobil one oil that I buy half price at Canadian tire for my service!

Scoop unbolts... :) That will be the easiest part to do...

BTW the Pro scoop is satin Black so you could just direct swap in one of those if you wanted...
