They tested these on one of the first seasons of mythbusters before the show started to suck. It didn't do anything other than look like a science experiment under the hood.

I would still like to know why my mileage is so bad! On the highway it’s 20-22, but around down it’s less than 15 MPG!

Truck has higher mileage, but is impeccably maintained, always passes the annual emissions test, and does not have any lights on!

    :annoyed:

sounds like your fuel pump resistor might not be working right or you have a bad injector.

How much would either of those cost to replace? The truck is running great; Starts right up every time and has no issues...

    I’m utterly baffled!

Injectors are cheap, not sure on the resistor it’s a Toyota specific part.

Easy to install too? Ain’t know way in hell I’m bringing it to the dealer; I’ve never replaced an injector, but I’ve got a trusted mechanic who can do it cheap.

never did one on a Tacoma. I replace a set on a cobalt last year. Takes about 10 minutes. The injectors were only $12 a pop

And you think they’d cost about the same?

    I drive a Miata.

That sounds normal to me. :notsure:

Its a truck. The engine and transmission are designed to get it plus whatever payload moving from an average stoplight, and that consumes more energy than your average sedan.

The more stop and go you do, the more your Mpg will be penalized. Back to Newton's laws, an object at constant motion doesn't consume energy, but accelerating or decelerating does. And if you are going through neighborhoods delivering door dash, you are probably doing an awful lot of stopping and going. 15mpg average sounds normal under those conditions.

Has the mileage always been like this or more recent?

I have the same setup as you and I consistently get 20-23 city year round, more 20 in the winter though. I really think you'd benefit from using an engine scanner targeting MPG as you drive if you want to be more fuel efficient..

I never warm my truck up unless it's snowed quite a bit and I'm cleaning it off..no matter how hot or cold outside.

Im sure being an import it will be little bit more. Ranges depend on how much you want to spend. Oem are probably more than aftermarket

And I got a solid 22 MPG on the turnpike last August when driving home from Carlisle; This was with temperatures in the 80s and the A/C cranked, at a constant speed of 75-80 MPH...

I’m just a bit embarrassed that my dad’s 5.3L V8 Yukon manages better mileage than my 4-banger Tacoma sometimes.
