I’d like to have one of each in my shop at home but I don’t have room and I can use the ones at work anytime I need to and it’s only a 12 minute commute.

Congratulations! That's for certain a nice bump in pay. I hope you like it if you decide to go for it. It's no doubt a tougher decision when you say leaving the best job you ever had. I'm also hoping the benefits are there for you. Congrats again.

Thanks man I really appreciate it. I’ll have to weigh it out for sure. I think it’ll be deciding whether a bunch of paid time off (like 5-7 weeks) a year is worth less time off but more money and a company truck (at least temporarily).

you guys here are all so nice. I really appreciate the well wishes.

That would be awesome, but unfortunately not. They’re union so beennies are non negotiable. They’re time off policy is good, 24 hours to start, a week after 6 months and 2 weeks after a year, 11 holidays, really good by any standard other than umaine honestly.

I'm sure UMaine is similar to NDSU - we get 11 paid holidays and I'm currently at 18 vacation days per year but can't carry over more than 240 hours to the next calendar year.

I'm sure you will but compare and contrast the benefits of the current and new jobs. I'd probably be paid more elsewhere but the benefits at NDSU more than make up for the pay difference. Its essential shifting money now to money later, basically.

pretty similar. We get bank holidays, plus a couple we celebrate in New England that I’m not sure anyone else gets (patriots day?). We can roll 320 vacation, 60 comp (overtime) and 1200 sick time. I’ve maxed my retirement account since I’ve been there but it’s not a ton of money, so I don’t feel terrible about rolling it into something else. If I was closer to retirement I wouldn’t consider going anywhere, but where I’ve got at least 30 years before I can think of retiring, I figure I can go make some money and return to umaine for my retirement job. Assuming I haven’t been replaced by a robot by then.

yeah i don't really have anyone in my life that has a shop with this sort of stuff, so i had to man up and get my own. i think this stuff is very much like Boats... you don't want one, you want a friend that has a nice one. ;)

:rofl:never heard that one before but yes, yes exactly. And then as my former coworker and mentor used to say, you know how many people I'd have come over wanting me to spend 2 hours making a part they could go buy for $10.00 ??

Funny, between my roommate and my gf, you'd probably know one of them. Neither work at UMaine anymore, but still interesting. I bet if I drive my truck enough come not snow time, you'll probably see me zipping around the old town/bangor area.

I don’t doubt it. I used to be at the rec center 5 days a week from 5-7am before you had to make an appointment to get in. And I graduated old town high and never left so hopefully I will see your truck during the 2 months of summer we get !

Honestly I think it’s the wife I need to convince. The way it is now I work 6-6.5 days a week, I’ll have to prove I’ll cut back to 5 with a new job

I got the "privilege" of changing out the belts on our right twin band saw today. Gorgeous spot to be working in, shoulda brought an umbrella and a nice cold drink! The mounting system for this motor and jacking bolt adjuster leave some to be desired. When you take the four bolts loose, the whole motor tips and tries to fall off the machine, so you're fighting friction and gravity to run that jacking bolt in and out. Finished it up in less than an hour, and boy was there enough sawdust and hydraulic fluid on me to spread around. It's like craft glitter. For men. Shit never comes off fully or leaves your pockets. 8B102BAD-82F7-43CB-A392-714E5BB8C8AA.jpgC3DCEEB4-46ED-41FE-B40E-91EEA8E60836.jpg
