Pens fight back with 2 quick goals - including a shorty by Tanev - to tie the game in the 3rd.

They probably were until they beat the Pens last year. So it went from "make playoffs" to "we should be contending for the Cup!" lol

That was an awesome response. Obviously we have no one that is going to throw down w him, but clean legal, hits does the job. Also, if we could make them pay when he does get put in the box, that would also maybe calm him (and the Caps in general) from taking liberties, physically. Letang actually played his ass off when his stick broke the first time, for the goal. I felt bad for him. And then the 2nd time was just unfortunate. But I thought we had opportunities but at the same time, both of our goals were pretty soft and should've been stopped. So I don't think we deserved that win anyways.

Yeah. I remember the Habs were the last team to make the playoffs last year and they promptly dispatched the Pens. Not good.

 

They also tore up the North Division for the first ten games. Anderson and Tofolli looked like two elite level goal scorers and the rest of the Habs looked as good or better than they did in the playoffs. Then everyone came back to reality, Anderson and Tofolli are upper end role players in a top six, and Price has absolutely shit the bed compared to what he was only a couple of years ago.

 

Ya I guess that is kind of my point though. They probably were lucky to even get into the playoffs last year and really they played the Pens who were on a downslide (not to discredit their win. They played a good series.) Combine that with how they started '21 and it's easy to see through rose colored glasses. But like you said, when reality sets in, they are still just a bubble team, in my opinion. Not a true contender. As far as Price, no he hasn't always been great but they went out and got Jake Allen and he's been good. So if they don't play him more, that is their own fault. There is nothing wrong with giving Allen more of a load until Price comes around, but I don't think they have really been doing that. As a whole, if they aren't happy with those 2 guys and how they are playing, chances are it has more to do with the play in front of them. But from what I have seen, Allen has been good almost every time I saw him, this year (granted I don't get to watch every Habs game.)

 

The Habs fans are the worst for parade planning. I know everyone likes to bug TO because the Leafs always get the media attention, but within Quebec it's Habs talk 24/7 and the talk this year was a division win and cup run. It didn't help that when they were hot every English media person tried to claim that they predicted the Habs turning things around first which just made more Habs fans buy into them being the team to beat in the NHL.

As for the goalies, you're absolutely right. Allen needs to take over. Price is well under .900 and is showing that level of play consistently. He needs to sit on the bench and work on himself more in practice because they aren't going to get 2 or 3 goals out of Anderson and Toffolli regularly like they did in the first ten or so games. The Habs have always looked best winning one goal games with Price behind them. They need to learn to do that again with someone else until Price is ready to come back.

 

Sam Gagner found the stash of puck luck the entire Detroit team has been missing. 3 completely lucky bounces for the harry. Meanwhile, Bobby Ryan hit the post with no goalie in net a couple of games ago.
