Well you learn something new every day.

My bench seat Dodge had a 6MT. You really really did not want to be the one wearing that middle seat belt... :cookiemonster:

my Ford is that way as well, never had anyone in that middle “jumper seat” or whatever they call it. I can’t imagine it being comfortable taking 4th gear to the gonads.

I'd equate it to placing magnets on the fuel line to magnetically align the molecules. Snake Oil as they used to call them. Potions that promise to cute your ails or nowadays, to increase your mileage.

I think a photo can describe this awful situation better than I can. Middle seat, you have to straddle the cup holder, keep your foot underneath mine so I can still have the gas pedal, and, oh yeah. Granite shift knob.

Only my most special friends rode that seat.

Maybe they moved them around in the later years, I don't own any automagic transmission vehicles and never plan to. Point being, is that the location of the lever is based on the layout of the seats. Heck, the new cars have electronic parking brakes, just a switch in the cab, another electronic thing to fail!

One of my own personal theories I have no proof to back up, is that vehicle manufactures were noting people were inherently becoming physically weaker as times went on. More force is able to be applied via a foot operated parking brake than a stick or lever operated handle for a typical person. The reason they went to pushbutton parking brake further solidifies that, people are too weak lazy to pull a lever or push a pedal, and want convenience of a pushbutton (much like the newer electronic 4wd systems). The price you pay (literally) for the convenience of these features is the over complexity and cost of the replacement parts, that have to be sourced directly from a dealer.

I prefer having a simplistic no-frills truck; The most advanced part of the truck is the stereo, and if that breaks I can buy a new one and replace it myself.

Also, there are times when I’m on a hill that I’m really glad my truck has an automatic transmission, especially if I have to come to a complete stop and then start moving again.

Yesterday while driving l came over a blind hill and a Dodge Caliber was just coming to rest on the side of the road, the left rear wheel had shot off, thankfully it didn't hit anyone!

Thats wild, glad nobody got hit. Had rubar fall off a truck hauling scrap come through front windshield once. Went right through and between people in the car. That was nuts.
