Steering Wheel Shake??

Hey everyone,

Just got new 265/75/16 toyo all terrain open country, for my 2006 access cab tacoma. I got them balanced and all set up. But i recently noticed when I drive on the freeway at about 60-70 my steering wheel starts to shake.
any thoughts, it is really annoying on long distance drives?

 

go back in where you got the tires and have them rebalanced...I had the exact same problem when I got new tires the other day. After getting them rebalanced it rides great.

I got BFG a/t ko's in 265/75/16 from Costco. I took it down the highway the next day and noticed the steering wheel shake at around 60 mph. Took it back and had them rebalanced...made a heck of a difference!

 

Nice! i was going to get those, let me know how they work off road and snow.

 

Had the same problem with a set of at/ko's, after I had them road force balanced they were smooth perfect.

 

After hours of researching this issue seems a lot of you are experiencing this and there dosent seem to be a real fix. Well here it is.
Tacoma's are called hub centric. That means they balance at the hub and not the lug. Now the easy fix to some of your issues are to have your tires balanced. If that dosent work or the problem comes back then the issue is at the hub.
If you have spacers as I do then they need to be hub centric meaning they need to have a small lip on the spacer that the rim will balance on. If you have after market rims then the bore size of the rim might be larger then the factory hub, which is 106. So if the aftermarket rim is larger it will wobble and your steering wheel will shake. You need to get centric rings to make the rim fit tightly to the hub.
