Four Place. A friend had built the Murphy, which was a nice plane. Back when you could find a surplus M14P; the Plane is still flying but with an O 540.

It's a little like "will a Tacoma do the job, or do I need a Tundra". I've never flown in the 5, but at times having a little more room would have been nice.

I’m a big guy (6’3”, 280) and I fit in the Rans but having an additional 2-3” of cockpit width would be nice, I really would like to sit in both a 4 place and model 5 and feel the size difference.
I’m a bit biased towards the Murphy for the all aluminum skin, but I think I would want the moose mods LS engine in the moose if I went that route, my long term goal is to fly in Alaska and go hunting so having the additional gross weight and space of a larger plane while keeping short field performance is a major plus.

Worst i've had happen is my iPad overheated from letting it sit directly in the sun.

Definitely good to learn old school so you understand where the numbers are coming from but, once you've passed that stage, I recommend going electronic. Just have a back up device. When I was flying pistons I had Foreflight on my iPad and on my phone. Electronic will always be more accurate and precise than doing it by hand. In the jet we're completely paperless.

I noticed in the webinar I watched on iPads in the cockpit that they mentioned cases with built in cooling fans to reduce the chance of it getting too hot.
Thanks for the input, I’m excited to learn the paper and advance to digital.

Interesting, first i've heard of such a thing. Could definitely be useful. I just made sure to keep my iPad tucked in the shade as much as possible. It's good to learn how to do it old school so you're not completely reliant on the electronics. It's definitely an issue I saw when I was an instructor.

Digital is so nice, it would take me an hour to two to plan by hand with a paper nav log, charts, a plotter and e6b. Foreflight would do all of that in about 5 min.

The spectators that came to watch us land were surprised by the amount of rotorwash and blowing snow.

I had a nice red sunrise when I went to pick up a broken bird yesterday. "Red in the morning sailor take warning"...great omen when you're headed out to diagnose and fly home a girl that oversped an engine.

No, I’m still on the XLS...it was hiding behind the Falcon. That plane is NICE though. We just acquired it and it got a new interior. It smells so good!

So got some good news, I have been working in another field since ExpressJe went under. But I'm happy to say I got picked up by CommutAir class date March 22. Hoping all my fellow XJTers land on their feet.

    Either way, just do it!

Bush Pilot Joke. Go flies in and picks up two hunters and their bagged moose. "Hey, fella's we are too heavy with that moose, we need to leave it behind." Both hunters "we did this last year, with a moose onboard."

The pilot thinks about it and realizes it's still pretty cool and should just clear the trees at the far end of the lake". Full throttle, just doesn't clear the trees. Smacked right into the trees. All three are OK, the plane is a wreck. Pilot apologizes about the mishap, but they guys look at each other say "that is fine, you made is about 100' further than we made it last year"

Do not divert to Bethel! Friends in Alaska always warn me, buddy went up there and got fogged in for a week in Bethel. He did laugh "you warned me".

:rofl::rofl: That’s hilarious! I know of a few people who would say that type of thing to the pilot.

Don’t divert to bethel, noted, thanks for the tip.
