Stiffer Front End

Because of my job I'm often finding myself needing to curb hop the taco (reg cab 4x4, no suspension mods). On the way off a curb of say 5 inches it almost ALWAYS bottoms out. I don't think it is my driving because I do go at an angle and drive very slowly.

I can and often do handle these curbs just fine in a dang minivan!

Any advice on how to stiffen up the front in? New shocks/springs? If so, any recommendations?

Could getting larger tires without any type of suspension work help?

 

You shouldn't bottom going up and down curbs but you could get aftermarket coilover shocks possibly just some new shocks or springs

 

bottoming out, or mud flaps scraping?

 

Ski, I'm almost positive im bottoming out bc it sounds like the most horrible scrapping noise ever. Similar to bottoming out in a non mudflapped ride. However, I have checked under the truck a few times after ive thought i bottomed out and have never noticed a bad scratching.

I'm going to punch myself in the dick if it is just the flaps. haha

I'll have someone watch next time I come down from the curb and see if maybe you're right.

Anyway, if I'm not just a moron (which is quite possible), does anyone think larger tires would help?

 

larger tires would certainly help if it's the mud flaps, cross member, frame, etc.

 

I think mikes right sounds like the flaps. I had to cut about 3" off the bottom so I didn't scrape speed bumps.

I scraped mine when i was doing yard work and scraped them coming off the curb.

I also added 265/75R16 Duratracs , and have had no problems since going over things.

 

Mud flaps FTW. Deleted fronts today, and no more horrible sounds. Busted 3 out of the six rivets in the process. In case I want to trim and re-install does anymore know where to order replacement rivets?

I'll bet it did. You can get those from the dealership if you want perfect match (and little parts like that are usually pretty cheap). You can also look at Autozone or a larger hardware store and find something that'll get the job done for you.
