Happy with Fox but also Troylee. Dont know how much protection you're looking for.

Not shade at all. The lack of flow and normal dirt here makes it even more enjoyable when I do drive up to the mountains for a day to get some flow in. Also makes it scary to learn jumps here in phoenix because if you go down its cactus, rocks, spikey bush, or even larger rocks. honestly consider me jealous that east coast has some nice flow and proper dirt. And trees. I've gotta drive 2 hours to see some actual trees...

I mean, is it not fair to point out that Pheonix area riding is significantly different than Alabama? A HT certainly wouldn't be my first choice for extreme rock chunk. But flowy forest trails and jump lines like I've seen the AL guys post? You bet!

You posted a chunky trail yes. Look I haven't ridden in AL but am I to believe that it is just endless rock gnar? I just don't think he was intending any type of "east coast shade" or what that would even mean. All he said was he didn't think about a HT because it's not what he'd want on his local trails.

Didn't you literally post a smooth jump line like yesterday?

I rode a 429 yesterday. Feels very similar pedaling around the parking lot as the Firebird I'm on. However when we start climbing rocks and switchback I can only imagine it's 10x better.

Sure it's doable on the Firebird, but I imagine my legs are smoked compared to what they could be on a true trail bike.

lol I think @honda50r was joking to an extent, even if there was an implication that the southeast doesn't have chunk.

my simple question was if you had my stumpy, what would your bike #2 be? no location, no terrain, no nothing specifics. you could've said a fricking single speed fat tire bike for all I care. just what's your #2? lol

More important than where you ride, is what you like to ride. I actually love my hardtail on southern Utah slickrock. It's way easier to maneuver, manual, bunny hop, etc. when the riding is technical. Sure, my tooshie is more sore but who doesn't like that?!
