I'm running 600lbs springs on my 4cylinder at 12 and 14 threads showing and cant feel a speed bump at 30mph. But then again I do have a bumper that might be making a difference. I think id go with 550s if no extra weight. @Allex95 also this https://www.crawlpedia.com/spring_rate_calculator.htm

Going with a steel bumper next week so not 550s lol I rocking 650s with the toytecs and they were fine. I swear it might be just the shorter length of the shock it feels like it can’t extend anymore which is mostly likely preload

How much lift is that for 12 threads?

The shorter length of the shock compared to the Toytec shocks is negligible, especially in the situation you're describing.

I bet it's just the preload, lessen it down some and let us know how that works out.

You don't have to go to King for that, you can lessen the preload using the big punch that comes with the Kings. Don't even need to jack up the truck or take them off.

Just loosen the collar with an Allen wrench, stick the punch in the adjustment holes and crank it. Takes a little muscle but it's doable

I think i am at 2 inches. My cv angels are still garbage even with the 1 inch diff drop.

Yup, that's why I'm at like 1.5" lift on mine now. Even with a diff drop (useless junk imo), I was ruining boots at even 2" of lift. I don't know how people rock over 2" lift on here unless they just never talk about their CV boots tearing all the time lol

Or they have those new fancy high angle CVs

I was told that by the measurements I gave them it’s way to much preload to do it by the collar.

that's odd....I don't know how else you'd adjust preload than by loosening the collar and turning it, but if anyone can do it right its King themselves.

They said it’s to much if I did it without compressing the coil I would either break the tool or mess the shock up. There not charging me anyways to bring it down so

I feel like at 2.5 you also will top out the uniball. Unless you have a limit strap. I think the manual hubs also add to the longevity of the boots.

Oh yeah totally, because in 4wd offroad with the constant up/down on the suspension the boots are going to rub no matter what. It's the daily driving around town that does them in if they are rubbing at ride height. Manual hubs would be a big plus for that, that's for sure

Have you gone fast enough or jumped it enough to find the limits of your current (stock) suspension? i.e Have you overheated your stock shocks, or bottom out the suspension on a regular basis, etc...?

If not, there's no reason to upgrade.

You can also get a set of Bilstein 5100s and have a good improvement over stock as well, and spend 1/5th the amount of money.
