I had a 05 work truck with a 5.4. It got stolen, recovered minus everything in it, mirrors, hub caps. My jackass boss didn’t want to buy mirrors so they put me in a 12 Nissan with a 5.6.

Both have plus and minus attributes. The Ford was built far better and had more cargo space. The engine was pretty gutless. The Nissan has way more power but the brakes really suck, can’t handle the excessive weight I’m carrying in it. I’m lucky to get 18 months out of new pads and rotors. Every time the rotors look like shattered glass.

Can't say my Tacoma doors vibrate, but they definitely make other noises I wouldn't expect a solid vehicle to make. Still trying to diagnose it. Based on the research I've done (I was slightly obsessed since the 2015 model came out), the 2.7L EcoBoost. is the best engine choice in the F150. Even over the 5.0L. There were also lots of other reasons for failures, however, such as not changing the engine oil soon enough because the recommendation was too long (which is one of the reasons I have issues with the 10k recommendation from Toyota for the Tacoma).

That era was notoriously bad. My coworker had a 2006 and it burned a lot of oil. All the dealership could say was that it was normal for that engine. Personally, I wouldn't own an F150 between 1997 and 2014. I grew up a GM guy. If I needed a full size, the 2018 F150 was what I was going with, but I didn't so I went with the 2017 Taco instead.

The 10 speed has gotten mixed reviews since it was introduced. I could go on and on about it, but basically it comes down to the fact that there are simply more gears so it acts different. I see the same complaints for the 10 speed as I do for the Tacoma 6 speed. Namely "gear hunting," but still. Some complain that it doesn't go through the gears sequentially. But neither does a big rig that's not fully loaded.

You right. I've been out of the Diesel game for so long I haven't put much thought in the larger V8's. They do seem to provide good numbers. However the Difference between the 7.3 gas and the Diesel in Ford Super Duty's is huge. The Diesel has almost 600 more ft'lbs of torque than the gas LOL. Thats huge.

Exactly, most people are not close to needing those numbers either. The 7.3L gas has like 1/2 or 2/3 the towing capacity in the F350 setup. They just don’t want to have their truck downshift or loose speed when going up a grade with their weekend camper.:jerkoff:

I just sold my 04 F250 FX4 with the 6.0. Engine was bulletproofed and had 245K miles on it. Still got $15K for it. Wouldn't have sold it but the resale market for those 3/4 ton diesels is through the roof. I ended up getting several thousand above high bluebook on it.

Got the Tacoma from a family member and while it is fun to drive and I plan on using it for getting into back country areas that I wouldn't take a full size pick up in it's a bad comparison to make with a full size. I'll be buying another full size (F150 or Ram 1500) as it has more room, is more comfortable for road trips, can tow more much more easily, has a much bigger bed, etc.

A compact pick up and a full size are completely different tools and as long as people understand that it's good. But like others have said it's not a fair comparison between the two.

I had an ‘86 F-150, what a rust bucket it was. The metal on those trucks was so bad you could almost hear them rust while sitting in your driveway.

There is a huge difference between an open trailer and enclosed. Aerodynamics. Who lies about the trip computer showing 9 MPG?

No money, all went to truck...
Yeah, I think Toyota has the award for rust buckets. 80-90s, worst rust ever. Hawaii climate does something extra special to those trucks...

THIS^^^ I love the size of the Tacoma and the simplicity of the design and function. I'd love more power. I'd love a mechanical/lever transfer case. Other than that, I love driving my Tacoma and like the size. I'm 6'3" and weigh about 215, and even with that, full sized trucks just feel to big and cumbersome to me.
I would however, love to do a 5.3 LS swap some day...... except..... it's a Chevy.....
