Not necessary if you have a led flasher relay

I'm thinking about getting these but I saw someone comment about them not being for 01-04. If I get them I'll see if you're still looking.

ok. got them installed but problems:
    Brakes lights work. both sides
    Turn signals work, both sides.
Backup lights work, both sides. They came with std bulbs but i swapped my LED ones in. This may explain #3??..

    1. Passenger side seems to have a running light short. Verified by trying both taillights on the same socket, drivers side has the LED "C " shape light working with parking lights on, passenger side does not. I barely got it to work when it first inserts into the socket, but pushing it all the way in and it goes out. Tested each pin with a multimeter but I was going off this thread which i'm not sure is right for my '02.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...3-left-rear-tail-light-wiring-diagram.636544/

    2. I could not get my camper shell 3rd brake light to work, I accidentally cut the Double green w/ white wire BEFORE the socket, which the other thread said is the brake light, so I soldered them back together and stuck the 3rd brake positive on it, but it came on for 1 sec and then out and never again.

    3. My left turn signal dash light is now on constant (dim). Turn signals work though.

Tomorrow, I'm going to remove all other wires. I have backup sensors and a backup camera wired into them so I need to do process of elimination, then add things on by one. I ra out of daylight so waiting until tomorrow.

I dug out my original 2002 tail lights and recorded the pinout to the lights.. 6 pins:
    clip on top
    looking left to right
    1WHBK - Ground 2Solid GRN - Brake+ 3GRN-YL - Turn+
    4Solid GRN - to pin 2 5GRN-BL Reverse+ 6GRN-RD Brake+

Either 2/4 or 6 is the taillight vs brake. Anyone know?

The Anzo socket only has 5 pins.

I also might take out my LED relay and put back the original to see if that helps. Would that affect the voltage to the entire unit or only the turn signals?

digging around, I found a brand new Spyder drivers side taillight that I might just use anyway and return these Anzo's if all else fails. Forgot I had it from replacing my right side after sticking a pole through it years ago.

I got the pass running light to work. I added a pin to the empty slot on the new tail light and spliced it with light grey wire on the tail light. But the drivers side reverse light still doesnt work. However, the pass side does. I removed the led reverse bulbs I put in and tried to ones it came with but got the same result.

long story short, they dont work on an 02, not even with stock flasher. passenger side taillights never work. backup lights are hit/miss depending on resistor. I'm returning them.

yes. similar to what i found. 02's have 6 pin sockets, this only has 5 so they aren't wired right out of the box.

Anzo got back to me and confirmed these are only for 95-00 models. Carparts.com already got me a return label.

I bet you could make a 5-to-6 pin adapter if you knew what needs to go where. But i think the resistors they use need to go, just use an LED relay. Not worth the hassle. I bet they make an 01-03 version eventually

I followed this post to get a pair of these LED tails (mine from eBay) to work fine for me on my 02 taco.

Just cut a couple small lengths of a small metal paperclip, bend em, shove em into their respective holes from that post, and then close it all up.
