I remember a post from a while back mentioning there was not enough timing available low RPM under boost. Is this still an issue? Is there a solution?

The solution is just not running any advance. Engine still runs and chugs along in boost, with ignition a few degrees retarded from 0.

If you mean super low rpm.

I don’t have the kit yet and I’m not a tuning expert so this is just me being curious. I just remember you mentioning that it was something you discovered and were considering putting out a disclaimer about it so I thought I’d check in. Really excited about this! Keep on keepin on!

    Update-
Okay folks, now that we have several TT trucks on the road... we have learned a few things, and have made some necessary changes to the kit based on feedback and the most common issues.

    Kit changes:
#1 - Boost tap locations. Kits are going to be modified, where the taps will now be on the turbocharger compressor housings. Zero chance of a bad location for boost reference going forward. Incorrect boost tap placement can cause uncontrollable overboosting
#2 - Wastegate actuator pre-load. Due to installation challenges, there may be times when the wastegate needs disconnected. (not required, but makes it easier.) So we will be providing wastegate pre-load information and how to verify it's setup / installed correctly so it won't overboost
#3 - downpipe to steering shaft. We will be making a few modifications to the downpipes for you guys.

    Fuel Pump controller:
New controllers are finished, tested and being setup with firmware and installation into housings.
    - will come preloaded with firmware.
    - has complete overvolt, overamp draw protection
    - no excess wiring, all designed on pcb. Unlike previous FPCs.
    - Expansion setup for something coming later (very high HP builds) are already setup. Easy upgrade-ability

    Tuning:
The folks who have their kits installed have provided us tons of data that has helped refine the tune, refine the starting point tune (everyone will need to do a few logs for verification, etc) but it significantly lessens the amount of customization required.
We have had a few challenges, which did not show up on our development truck.
Good news is it's very refined.
in boost and out of boost driving experience should be excellent, smooth, responsive, and very powerful.

    Current challenge:
There is one part of the tune we are still working on. When the engine is ice cold and driven without any warm up in extreme / cold temps, there is some stumbling when in boost with the engine temps under 50*F. We are working on adjusting the cold start/drive to fix this.
We do highly recommend warming the truck up before going into boost but I do understand this is not always possible, so we are fixing this in the tune.

    Pending Shipments:
We are making the changes to the turbos (installing boost taps onto the housings) and start sending out shipments again.

What do you think the cost to ship turbos back for you to do the boost taps in the housing?
I personally wouldn't feel comfy drilling into them myself.

If this is even an option?

    Great update.

Hoping to have the time soon to tee in that line to my boost taps to prevent further overboosting, should be the last hurdle for me it seems. Driver side boost tap is too far away from the snail.

Daily-ing the truck with the snails onboard is still great.

What Mat says about the cold temps thing is accurate, even with the turbos just spooling but not producing boost yet, it doesn't quite like it much, certainly not if you end up seeing some boost while it's still super cold. Eager to run a map revision from Mat for that.

Power delivery is easily accessible and smooth, and strong. Had another Tacoma behind me on my way to work today, and my acceleration from a stop to 80mph was so much quicker than his that it was silly really, with me only giving it probably 35-40% throttle. Just pulls so smoothly and without hassle or fuss.

You’ve got the time to save for them.
Plus when your time comes all the hard tidbits will have been ironed out.

OV is doing fantastic, as turboing and tuning newer and newer vehicles becomes harder due to locks on ECUs

    Sounds like some good stuff.
same story with the supercharger too. Reminds me of my racing carburetors that have trained me not to full throttle until THEY are ready. As soon as engine reaches temp it magically clears up and my training let’s me full throttle again (on race cars and Tacoma) lol. I still get 7psi boost when cold but it is certainly hesitant about it.

It was the same way with my speed3. Stock it was happy with cold driving but once I put the big gtx3076r in, I had to baby it while it got up to temp

The Tacoma will let me get to 7-10psi while cold if I wanted to. But even at 3 it's grumpy so I just spool without building boost if I can help it until it's at temp

For daily driving, I'd say 7psi up to 9 or 10 is perfect for this truck. I say 9 or 10 since I overboost a bit up to that due to my y-pipe and then taper down. I'm sure targeting 10 feels excellent.

And most of my 7psi fun is seen at just partial throttle, especially if I'm in 5th or 6th and just looking to speed up, or in 4th merging onto the freeway. Sometimes I catch myself thinking shit, that's just half throttle, or less? Lol makes me think that 12-15+ psi must be simply outrageous in this truck lmao

The fuel pump controller has 2 extra expansion plugs that will be used for :
1 - getting real pressure data from the fuel rail, not only relying on a duty cycle
2 - boost reference to alter duty cycle.

but that's later in the future
