Yes you need a brake controller. Red arc installs nicely in these trucks. This pic is what it looks like in my 2020, that's all you see the rest is hidden. There is a tread on this and the Takonsha P3 options in the towing section.
    IMG_20200827_171352.jpg

I would also probably not do a lift or get more moderate one. Don't think you want to try for 33"+ tires either. Some say that hurts towing preformance.

Since it's used like others said focus on cleaning and making sure the maintenance is all done and up to date.
Get some functional mods that are going to make the truck better for you. Things like bed mat. All weather floor mats, console and glove box organizers, interior LED bulbs, maybe seat covers if you like. Things like that aren't super expensive. Drive the truck and get used to how it tows your toys I'd say before you make big changes to the tires and suspension. It's really easy to get too carried away with mods on this site. Don't try to keep up. Some of the people on here must have deep pockets or big credit card debt to do all this that you see posted.

Most of all congratulations and enjoy.

If you pay off the truck early, you can buy your car payment's worth in mods every month until you have what you want ;)

Thank you very much for great ideas!
For now I’m just driving as it came, I’ll also see brake controller I saved from my last ride would work...Quest brake controller. It turned out Tacoma had airbag suspension. I haven’t checked it is still working, hold air with no puncture. I’ll check on it soon.
Here’s my Tacoma with my wife in front of it, as if it’s hers!

Shit I found on CL or EBAY that I could screw on.
    Window Tint.
Pay the price to have it done professionally.
It will last the life of the truck..glass I guess.
    Koolness-factor instantly increased by 10+

I think the best initial investments for your truck would be High quality seat covers and floor mats.
