This is all good information, thanks for your post! I was a little wrong on the exact specifications I think. Turns out this thing from what he says is the loaded Legacy Outback which has the 2.5L, so a little more power. I'll have to do the final confirmation when I get to it Monday, but if it is the upper model it's an even better score for what I'm picking it up for (not saying until it's in my driveway). Either would be fine with me honestly. Original owner used it for cross country road trips, so most of those 200K miles are all highway. They guy who bought it from them (and who my co-worker got it from) did the timing belt, water pump, and clutch according to receipts. Sold it to my co-worker for a song since his kids refused to learn how to drive stick o_O The best part is it's relatively rust free, which is rare in these parts. After all said and done I hope to have under a grand between purchase, repairs, and registration crap.

    Premium package all right!
Ours is the Legacy Outback (wagon) as well. Back in those years Subaru made the Legacy sedan and wagon. The Outback wagon was a premium package with a raised roof + bells and whistles. Ours came with the original window sticker, $25,000 with one option -- the leather package. A few years later the Outback became a separate model.

The timing belt is a 90K or 100K service item so you should be good for a while. The 2.5 of that vintage is the 4 cam version, later only have two. The big thing with these is the head gaskets, changing the coolant out every 2 years protects them along with a genuine Subaru T-stat. I use Pentofrost A2 - recommended for Subaru of this vintage, and a bottle of genuine Subaru coolant conditioner (part #SOA635071).

These cars are really easy to work on, there is even a dipstick for the front differential. Get the Haynes manual (part #
89100) it is surprisingly comprehensive. I think you will really like this car

Yup this is a wagon on top of it as well, which is even better. Always had a soft spot for wagons!

Before putting it "on the road" (and not the Vice Grip Garage style of getting it home as its sat for a while) it's gonna get a coolant service, oil change (my preference is Rotella T6 5w40), brake fluid flush, and probably a new battery more than likely. It's in good shape, but needs some love.

1966 Ford Ranch Wagon -- the wagon version of the full size Galaxie.
The Ranch Wagon is the base model, Country Sedan in the middle and the wood paneled Country Squire as the flagship of the Ford line.

When I was a kid I thought our Rambler was awesome. My grandpa had a Galaxie around that year that was a really cool car also

My dad had Ramblers because they were thrifty and so was he. 1969 was the last year for the Rambler American you pictured. I had a 65 and 67, not wagons however. Never found one at the right time, most wagons got worked into the ground.

Funny, when I drive the wagon nobody under 40 notices it, the over 40's usually have growing up memories about them. Younger folks don't realize everywhere you see a SUV, mini van or probably 85% of the pickups today "back in the day" there would be a station wagon.

My uncle had a 66 Country Squire with a 390, I thought it was the coolest thing going -- all these years later I found this old girl.

My dad sold it to a painter. That thing ran around town for years with ladders stacked on the roof and the back full of painting stuff

I had a '69 Mercury with the 429. Power EVERYTHING. Windows, door locks, headlight covers.... That was a beast. Stock.

We had a 3-spd rambler too.

My old wagon is a 289 which is surprising capable for the size of the car and gets around 18-19 mpg cruising on secondary roads.
I have power steering, a hand crank tailgate window and manual drum brakes.
