You been here to long, When there's TOO MUCH TO LIST!
So I have had a seep/leak coming from behind the steering pump for about 2yrs (130,000mi on 09). It is slowly getting worse, but still not spotting the driveway. I bought valve cover ,intake, throttle body, gaskets and Permatex Right stuff, to goup the area behind the steering pump I'm not worried how it looks I just don't like leaks. I'am also going to slip in some exhaust valve gears while I'm there. I have read that one of the bolts for the power steering pump pushes the timing chain cover away from the block. The pump mount is sandwiched and possibly to large. I haven't seen any photos or found any detailed threads on this just references to it in other threads. I would like this seal to work so I won't have to reseal the complete timing chain cover until I have to change the timing chain. I just need to know how much to file/grind off the power steering pump, where exactly to file, and assurance reason this won't affect alignment of the pump pully.
    Thanks, Stiffy

Apologies to the mods if this is the wrong forum please advise, or move as you see fit Ive'been member for awhile just don't post much. Thanks

It's a myth, the non-ps v6 models leak from the exact same spot. You need a timing cover reseal.

It's not terrible and you can inspect the chains and tensioners while you're in there.

Bishop84, seems like I saw a TSB for the reseal a number of years ago. They know what the issue is and I'm sort of wondering if the info ever made it down to the factory for people assembling the engines. Are you still seeing leaks on say the '12-'15s?

All v6's camry, rav, venza, highlander, tacoma 1gr 2gr doesn't matter.

It's an assembly issue and it sucks as it taints an otherwise near perfect engine.

So its entirely pot luck no matter the year of the V6? Man that stinks, really stinks. Why did someone from corporate not visit the engine factory and lay down the law on sealing that piece on the timing cover?

It's not that common, but its a known issue. Most just sweat, the ones that leak are typically overdue on oil changes that I've seen.

Bought this truck with 9500 miles on it from a lady that worked at the Toyota plant in Indiana, I have used Mobil1 from the second day I owned it. I do the Maint myself and haven't missed a beat. Just got done with new brakes, shoes, pads, rotors, and drums OEM all the way around. Pressed new bearings into the pulleys. Just did my 4th fluid change on gear boxes. When I got hit the half shafts where CVJ, I just rebuilt the drive shafts Spicer carrier, and spicer u joints (also Mobil1 grease). I have fully flushed the trans, and power steering replaced steering rack after accident also replaced both spindle (1 was bent in accident). This leak would be considered a seep by most ( its a f*****g leak) Even after cleaning it is hard to tell if its timing cover or valve cover, it is not power steering. I just want to make sure that while I was into that part of the engine I covered all the bases. I will be trying the Right Stuff gasket after a thorough cleaning of the affected area as well as changing said gaskets. At this point this problem does not warrant the complete disassembly of the front of this engine, however it does deserve the better part of a day to see if I can stop/slow it, until the timing components exhibit natural ware. Any suggestions are appreciated, and thank you mister Bishop84 for confirming what I had suspected (long bolt =BS)
