Hello everyone , long time lurker first post
I've started my quest to purchase an Army Green 2021 TRD OR , DC , SB , MT on 01/09/2021 , went to the dealership , went over everything that I wanted , I was made aware of the waiting period , gave a deposit and went home feeling pretty good about the experience . It took them a month to tell me that the truck could not be ordered :annoyed:, so to make a long story short , after some back and forth , texts and phone calls with the sales manager , around the 20th of this month I put my name on an Army Green TRD OD , DC , SB but AT , not my first choice. My question is , to all of you guys in the PNW , did you manage to purchase a MT in Army Green ? and if so , what dealership did you go to ? WA or OR ? and the waiting period ?
I've called many dealership in WA or OR and as soon as they hear the MT in Army Green , they either don't call back , after telling me that they are going to look into it and if they do call back , they just tell me that , what I'm trying to get is like looking for BigFoot . Some help and advise would be greatly appreciated . thanks

You are trying to find a rather rare truck....that being said I ran a search on autotrader cause I was curious. I wanted army green but i went with cement.

Anyway the truck you want is at Freeman Toyota in northern Cali area. Its probably already sold but couldnt hurt to call and find out

If you're willing to travel, that truck is out there. I bought mine Auto trans, "Yes" to every option aside from the accessory add-ons, 4wd DCSB in November from dealer inventory at 10% off without even trying. It's a Tacoma. There's nothing rare about it at all. They make a couple hundred thousand a year, you just have to look around.

I was told by several dealers that they couldn't order AG tacos back then either but I still call BS. Just keep looking, be willing to travel some and it will pop up. A super quick cars.com search shows there are 14 MT trucks like you are looking for on the ground right now. Just gotta find the right deal in the right place.

I want army green as well, but they only have them in SR5s around me. I'm sick of the Super White, Silver Sky Metallic, Midnight Black Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic, it seems like that's the only colors any dealership carries. I would like to see them bring back the Calvary blue. They have 5 different grays (i'm adding lunar rock to it)

So your color choice trumps your trans choice....interesting. When I was looking for my MT, I had a couple of colors in mind because, like you, getting exactly what I wanted did not exist. You have to make a little compromise and be comfortable with it.

You sure? cars.com shows several OR and Sport near NJ. I don't think these are as hard to come by as people want to think.

Not in PNW, but that's the exact configuration I wanted and eventually got, AG OR 6MT DBSB. It does exist.

You have to check dealer sites every day, finally found one allocated 3 states away, called immediately and put a deposit down, waited a month and a half and drove home happy.

Dealers aren't willing to bend over to help you get one because they know it's going to sell the moment it hits the lot anyway.

Oh, and prepare to pay MSRP (or more from what I've heard about your region).

Why pay MSPR (or more!)? The worst offer I got when searching was about $1500 off, the best was roughly 10% off, no questions asked, at a dealership that markets themselves as "no haggle". I think they're part of the Berkshire Hathaway ownership group. I say this all the time, but it's a Toyota...not some ultra rare specimen that is handled by white gloved-curators. If they want MSRP, move on.

Yeah, but I want a green off road with LED headlights, there’s one in Maryland but it’s a 4 hr drive, and not sure how it works getting a car from a different state

Which truck did you buy? SR, SR5 trims, sure. MGM, White, Black, Sport/OR, sure. They don't move as as easily and aren't as desirable.

Simple. Buy it, drive it home. You'll either pay sales tax there when you buy and your local state will credit you when you register and get plates, or you don't pay sales tax until you get it home and register it/pay taxes there. There's nothing to it at all.

I bought Army Green, Off-Road, 4wd DCSB with every option. Loaded except for the stupid accessory crap that dealers love to lard the trucks up with to pad the price. It was sitting on a dealer's lot in inventory - no special order. It was about 150 miles away, so I called to confirm it was there, and asked what sort of deal they could put together. Without hesitation, the salesman quoted me a number that was within a rounding error from 10% off MSRP. No haggle dealer, no BS, take it or leave it. I gave them a credit card deposit on the spot.

I don't say that to gloat. I just say it to hopefully remind people that there are deals out there and these are Toyotas. They just aren't "rare" in any meaningful way that should make finding a deal hard.

That's a great deal, would have jumped all over it (if it was 6MT). AT is much easier to find that 6MT, saw dozens in my search. I also asked my dealer (and others) for the best price they could offer and it was always MSRP - current incentives. Some dealers either pad MSRP so you feel like you got a deal, or focus on volume and are confident in their finance dept ability to get the difference back there, but no half-decent salesmen is losing money on these trucks right now.

They ain't losing money. Even at the discount I paid. At the scale Toyota makes them and given the truck's relatively old age, all of the R&D costs were fully amortized years ago - don't forget that much of the truck is a teenager in terms of development...! There's enough margin and dealer holdback on them that they'll be just fine.

I live in an area where there are probably no less than 15 Toyota dealers in the metro area. I've owned a Taco since 2008, but I don't refer to any of them as "my dealer". I think too many people imply too much value on the goodwill "my" dealer will offer. Salesmen have no bargaining authority, service writers work on commission and come and go through the dealership through a revolving door. The GM or sales manager is the starting pitcher and the F&I guy is the closer.

It's a messy business, but don't ever worry about them going hungry.

I sent an email to each and every local dealer telling them exactly what I was looking for. Within 24 hours, I weeded out half who said something like "yes, but full MSPR" or "no we don't have, won't order". Then the others played dumb grab ass games like offering a nice discount, but adding it all back in with dealer adds like $600 window tint and other crapola. Pass. There were two who responded favorably and professionally, so from there it just came down to logistics.

You can 100% order this truck. At least you could in October. It's exactly what I ordered and received a few weeks ago.

I paid invoice +500, or around 39k with the bells and whistles.

Send an email to every dealer you're willing to deal with. Just make one and copy/paste it to every email.

Not every truck is listed yet. I was able to find a MT Pro in Lunar Rock this way. It wasn't on any search pages or on the dealer's own site. A few dealers that didn't have that specific truck let me know what showed in their system of who did actually have it.

If you want a very specific truck you need to put in the work to find it, work a deal, and likely travel.

You also need to beat anyone else that is trying to do the same. Many of these trucks are sold before they are ever listed anywhere.
