Compare them side by side and you will see.
The most important metric is resale. That is the best indicator of value, regardless if you trade it every year or keep it 20 years.

Even if he purchased at the end of 2017 his factory warranty ran out in late 2020 by my calculation unless, he’s got an extended warranty in which case lemon law probably won’t apply.

Just depends on the in service date. Comprehensive is 3 years and power train is 5 years. (With mileage stipulations, of course)

Don't go with the platinum. All the shiny bells and whistles are attractive, but the higher the trim, the more unproven and unrefined technology they pack in. Notice you never see F150 platinums, Cadillac's, etc, with 200k+ miles on them.

Ask the dealership if they will honor their work, and pay for this third, and last try.....

I like all the bells and whistles and tech and the things that failed were things found on almost every model of vehicle form A to Z. Nothing was unproven tec. It was sun roof, turbo coolant leak, and RMS. I don't ever keep vehicles past 100k typically, but there are def ones that make it that far, just not as often as Toyota. But it put a bad taste in my mouth regarding Ford at this point

I grew up a GM guy, but we've owned all 3. This is my first Toyota. I don't have enough time and miles to truly assess the reliability though. Through my experience and research, Ford seems to be the best quality long term and most reliable of the big 3.

Try to work a trade deal with the dealer if they have a truck you like - Ask for High Book +, on yours and a for a reasonable price on theirs . You may be able to work the situation around to your advantage.

Tell them to fix the truck correctly or you will get legal advice on what to do next.

The California Lemon Law (Civ. Code, § 1793.22) protects you when your vehicle is defective and cannot be repaired after a “reasonable” number of attempts. In such instances, the manufacturer must either replace or repurchase the vehicle—whichever you prefer.

    • The Lemon Law applies to most vehicles purchased or leased in California that are still under a manufacturer’s new car warranty. Members of the Armed Forces, who are stationed in or are residents of California, are protected by the Lemon Law even if their vehicles were purchased or registered outside of California.
    • The Lemon Law also applies to used vehicles when they are still under a manufacturer’s new car warranty. Any remaining time left on the warranty protects the car’s new owner.
    • Lemon vehicles that are bought back by dealers and then resold must be identified as a “lemon law buyback” and have a “lemon” sticker on their door. When lemon buybacks are not properly disclosed and sold “as is,” the buyer may still have rights under the Lemon Law. For additional information, see Lemon Law Buyback Vehicles.
There are certain guidelines for determining when a “reasonable” number of repair attempts have been made before you may be entitled to a refund or replacement vehicle. For additional information, see the Department of Consumer Affairs publication entitled Lemon-aid for Consumers.

Even when the Lemon Law does not apply in your case, other state and federal laws may protect you. These include laws that prohibit deceptive practices and require vehicles to meet minimum safety standards. For complete advice concerning your legal rights, you should consult your own attorney.

    Somewhere hot, flat and brown.
While true, this still proves my point. Goooood luck. Many "reasonable" standards to prove and many dollars and blood pressure points needed to do so. It's likely a fool's errand.

Lemon law claims are typically successful when the problem is so outrageous and absurd that Ray Charles could even see it from 100 yards away. It isn't exactly a consumer-friendly mechanism despite it's implied intentions.

Deceptive trade practices claims are a whole other issue. Especially if the dealer who has made the prior repairs, to no avail, buys it back. Then there are disclosure matters, etc., which bring us right back to the fact that the dealer may "buy it back" for whatever they can punt it for at the local Mannheim auction. If you want to keep it, roll the dice I guess and find someone else who may be able to repair it properly. If you don't want to take that chance, dump it and get something else.

    My two cents worth.

If the timing cover area is still leaking, is it leaking in the same place? There could be three possible situations.
    1. Bad sealing job with the gasket/sealer, torque specs, sloppy tech.
    2. The timing cover itself is not flat.
    3. The block/heads are not flat.

Ford sells more so they're going to have more complaints but it didn't always use to be that way. Ford use to be like Toyota...or maybe Toyota is more like Ford use to be and was slow to change. The good ol slow and steady wins the race but since Ram and even Chevy started with all of the mainstream changes, they've had to stay relevant. End result, the consumer loses.

Sorry, why would they buy it back?

Sure, they'll trade it, for whatever they think it's worth..

I exercised the CA lemon law and had Chevrolet buy back a 1500HD crew cab 4x4. No lawyer, no huge deal. I read the law, kept notes and records and then told them simply I was returning vehicle. There was initial pushback, they made several $mall offers short of complete repurchase. Stood firm and they bought it back. If your not the type to be intimidated, the procedure is clearly defined and in the consumers favor.
