@emelianenkov how many APIMs do you end up replacing? My Sync has had an awfully slow startup from day 1, but I haven't brought it up to the dealer because I looked at another 2020 that was the same and I have read on forums that many people have the same issue on '19s and '20s. I thought that was just the way it was with the new version (3.4 vs 3.3), and once it starts up it's very responsive so it didn't bug me a ton. A couple times lately it's had the "No GPS" icon appear and I have to do a restart to get it to come back so I'm starting to wonder if it really was bad from day one and it's starting to show worse symptoms now.

And... done. Can’t tell from the pic but it’s home, wheel kit on and purring like a kitten. Started on the 2nd pull.

I need to install my wheel kit!! Are you doing the wiring to add a couple connections to your generator connection now that you've got more juice, or getting someone to do it.

I have seen some people use generators for campers. I’m in the early stages of considering it for basically just hvac in the cab overnight. Heat in the winter cool in the summer. Rather than run the engine (for either). At least cool is easy enough for me I can handle it, dogs not a fan of the cold though. But I also don’t want to have some giant tank of a generator just to run some dinky little heater since it’s just my cab. Very early stages of maybe ideas but most likely won’t amount to much.

cheers! That’s actually one of the plans too within Austin. I’m sort of taking advantage of my available vacation time and no children at the moment. I have 5 weeks this year that’s insane - even with 2 weeks dropped in for this in March I’ll most likely be at 3-4 at the most. :notsure: there are a ton of smaller long-weekend-level trips like from RI out to Michigan, and from Austin out to the Ozarks etc. This one in March is a big one coast to coast. The big Alaskan/Canadian trip(s), and maybe including the Baja. From Austin I had an idea out to LA via Denver then down into the Baja peninsula and then back up to Austin through El Paso. Or roughly that. And then next year most likely I’ll take a week and head down to the keys from providence.

And then - Europe! That one is going to be a challenge both in timing off work and getting vehicle(s) and logistics. But given how easy it was to build this pvc platform last night in a few hours I could probably whip one up once I got there. And then do the riviera.

the Europe trip is a pipe dream mannnnnny years away and I just thought of it as I’m typing this.

Not sure yet... to be honest, we’re looking to move soon so i’ll probably keep this house as-is and install a transfer switch in the next place. I’m perfectly capable of installing my own transfer switch however, i’d probably have an electrician install it. The implications of getting it wrong are pretty severe. The stuff in my house is one thing, messing with the main panel is a little different.

Im in the same boat. I do a lot myself and I have confidence to do that too but at a certain point it’s worth it to farm it out and have them pull permits and be responsible etc. it’s also in the neighborhood of a grand we aren’t talking a 50k project you save 46K on doing it yourself.

We just had a transfer switch installed a couple months back for the generator; was $400 in labor. I bought the switch separately thinking I’d do it but decided to hire someone instead. The switch itself was like $350 at Lowe’s. Luckily there was a hot tub on the back deck not long ago so there was a dual 50amp circuit wiring to a box out there where he put the inlet; otherwise it could’ve been another $2-300 in wire

When I put my garage heater in this fall it was like $140 for a 50' reel of 8GA 3 wire sheathed. Damn heavy gauge wire is expensive as hell. It was relatively easy adding a 50A circuit to my box, but it had a decent amount of space in it as my house is newish (2004)

    welcome to Rhode Island. :jerkoff:

my box is absolutely stuffed like thanksgiving. Built in 1953 and added air con, dishwasher, an outdoor shed, washer dryer since then. If we stick around it’s going to be a biiiiiig cost day to go up to 200A and replace the box.

I think if we don’t get a pool, nor an electric car charger, nor install solar, we should be able to leave it.

edit yeah copper is expensive now.

Guy I work with just had this installed for his generator. They put this on the box and ran the wire to a outlet outside the house. Don’t know if it’s legal in mass he’s in NH.

Did he do it himself or have an electrician do it? In short, it’s not legal. What he’s doing is using a breaker to back feed the panel. In the event of a power loss, he needs to cut the main, flip the generator breaker, then plug in the generator. If you forget to throw the main breaker, you’re backfeeding the street lines which can be very problematic for a line crew who go out and attempt to repair what should otherwise be a dead line.

That’s an interlocking flag that prevents back feeding the power lines provided it stays on the panel and used as designed.

He had a licensed electrician do all of it. Was going to do the switch panel but got this instead.
