I missed the flag piece, I see now what they’re doing.
Interesting. It works, i’ve never seen a device like that. Living in MA, i’d be surprised if it were legal here.

I never seen it before either. I already bought the switch panel and just never got around to installing it but I might go this route instead.

That way of feeding the panel from a generator technically allows you to power any circuit but... you still need a meter for each pole so that you don’t overload one side of the generator. Honestly, a transfer switch is simple and they usually have meters on them. Not to mention, the circuits that one would use during a power outage probably won’t change. It’s not like a ‘standard’ size generator is going to power central AC, electric dryer, etc... Typically, it’s the boiler or furnace, well pump (if one has a well), refrigerator, kitchen outlets, etc...

Cool system. It works, probably was the easiest way to set it up. My in laws have an automated whole house switch. So if the power goes out it’s only for about 30 seconds while the switch flips and the generator kicks on. They buried a 500 (300? Big bastard) gallon propane tank. Right now the only thing that runs on propane is that generator. Slick setup. Overkill, but when the power goes out they’re all set to go probably for a month I’d say, depending on the weather. I’m planning something much smaller scale and much more manually controlled.

Yup. It works and it might be the simplest or cheapest setup but it’s not the best.

When I first moved up here to NH we lost power enough that I bought a generator. Paid for itself December 11 2008.

This is pretty neat. I’ve only ever seen interlocks/mbt’s like this on submarines for loads with redundant power supplies, never in a residential application.

This; literally all we chose was boiler, fridge/freezer, well pump and some lights/ outlets

Ordered my generator a few weeks ago, luckily before the TX storm added even more time to the delay, 18kw and I plan on powering my entire house or close. I'll get a 250 gallon propane put next to it, should last about 3 days of full time use according to the generator specs. I would consider a larger tank but I live on a highway and my line is the school/townhall/library, we get fixed quickly. I think 24 hours is the longest its been out here

Ordered a few weeks ago but isn't supposed to get here until April.

We have two at our business. One for the main building we just got used, $2500 for a 25kw! It will do our 3 a/c systems and the music/fridges for our weddings. We previously had a national guard diesel manual connect the town fire department lent us. It wouldn't send the power TO the building though, and the part cost almost as much as the "new" automatic generator. Then we have a smaller 16kw that runs our fire pump system, kitchen and bridal suite. They also stop the never ending phone calls and alarms when the power goes from said fire system, which mentally pay for itself fast

I think after my tank gets added, we will have 3k gallons of propane storage between it all. For the business it makes a lot of sense, because well, its our business and a 150 degree room, or a cold dinner would ruin the night and hurt us a lot. Our personal set up has been delayed a few years now because it isn't super necessary, and it is super expensive, at least how I want mine set. With the baby though and not wanting to deal with power outtage+baby, it was time.

When we lived in NH we had a 100Gal propane tank but it was tough to fill/transport since you’re not supposed to lay it down. That went with the house when it was sold. i got dual fuel for the house here in Upton. Typically keep 2 20# tanks and 2 5gal gas cans on reserve as we can get about 2-3 days out of that for essentials. We’re right off 140 and get our feed from Grafton so restoration usually doesn’t take much longer than a day or two.

anything above a 20/30 gallon tank just call for delivery. My house growing up had a pair of 120 gallon tanks, we just got delivery. But we were also not in the sticks so delivery was an option.

My 40 gallon electric water heater was going cold quick I suspected the anode was ng . Called my nephew who’s a plumber and he tested everything. Took a look at the rod and it was junk. $23 later and I now have crazy hot water with new anode. Also flush it yearly .

Thanks @Bridge4 they fit perfect. I just have to get new hook thingies (I forget what my husband was calling them), they were a little bit too long. Hopefully find another dog bed the same size for Lilly

Awesome glad it worked out how I imagined it! I think the guy who made it had an idea that those hooks go to the tie downs back there? Once you get a new dog bed they will have an A+ view out the windows!

Yeah they were just a tiny bit too long to stay put. We grabbed some at Lowe’s that should work

the dog bed is exactly the same dimensions as one drawer. Crossing my fingers we can find a second one
