So I am looking to install a hitch on my truck and need to do the wiring for it. I’ve already gone through plenty of previous posts talking about this but I am reposting to see if simpler wiring kits have come out for the 2021 Tacoma’s. If you guys can suggest what kit I might need to do this that would be great. Once, again I am sorry for making another thread about this.

What do you mean what wiring is present. I have no trailer hitch wiring on my truck whatsoever right now.

You want just the flat 5 pin harness right? You can just get those kits off etrailer.

Yeah correct. But I saw that you have to run all this wire from the lights to the battery and what not. Is there a simpler way.

No not really. You want it that way anyways. It’s fused and better protects the truck from a electrical fire. It’s very easy to run the wire. I wrapped the power wire in conduit and electrical tape for protection. I did that same kit on my truck. 2017 SR 2.7.

I am running a plug and play 4pin wiring kit from Curt on my 2nd gen. It plugs in between the tail lights and thats all the wiring involved. Very simple to install

Is there a wire that also runs to the battery

No it uses the brake light circuit for power. There is a ground that needs to be installed by the driver side tail light area, but other than that it's plug and go

    I do the same thing,
I did not bother running a separate power from my battery because all my trailer lights were LED and low current draw.

I trust the fuse for the rear lights would blow before my taco catches fire. YMMV

I’ve seen some kits that a wire has to run to the battery

Things may be different on 3rd gen trucks. Just looking at curts website, it does appear that you need a positive to the battery. It definitely wasnt that way on my 09 but your truck may be different.

could you post up those kits?
perhaps your actually sourcing out kits that include trailer brake wiring.

I did install a brake controller in my Taco when we bought the camper, and I did have to run separate power wire down to the 7 pin connector ( to power the trailer brakes ) But like @BassAckwards 99% sure my curt PnP 4 pin trailer connector required no additional power, and all I had to do was secure the ground wire somewhere.

In fact I just checked my Amazon order history.
This is the exact thing I bought, and its PnP <- Canadian Amazon link

unless you need more then a standard 4 pin plug, this should do the trick ( also says its circuit protected, so that plus your regular back up light fuse would do the trick IMO, YMMV :D

This is what I was looking at. But when watching YouTube videos on it they would run power to the battery. On the kit that you sent me, do you have to run it to the battery too ?
