They show a test sheet and say it's certified for a specific break strength of 35,xxx or something. Strap looks legit enough, but who knows. It has ~1800 reviews and 5 stars on Amazon. Figured it can't be terrible so hopefully I don't eat those words. I just wanted it as an extension strap or back up. I would use my ARB snatch strap if possible. I actually didn't realize they claim this green strap has up to 7% stretch. I wouldn't snatch on it alone, but should be fine as an extension for ARB snatch strap if needed. Agree or disagree?

I had ordered just a random $30 strap from Amazon a month ago because I couldn’t afford to get a $100+ kinetic rope, but after reading input from you guys I returned that thing and bucked up the extra $35 to get the ARB snatch strap. Seems like a wise choice as far as safety is concerned.

I bought this intending to have a tow strap that didn't stretch. Well, guess I didn't read all the details in the description since it claims <7% stretch. Ha.

Ya live and ya learn, right? I learn new shit about off roading literally every day. Doesn’t hurt to learn from others I figure.

Went out to Long Beach, WA like others recommended and it was awesome. Lots of other vehicles there. Can’t wait to go out there again or other places like that in the summer and chill

I love pacific city, It’s probably my favorite part of the coast in Oregon. Cape Kiwanda is super nice. I was a photographer at one point of my life and I took many portraits and couple photos there. I thought they stopped allowing cars on the beach though? Maybe just because of COVID right now?

A while back I read they were trying to pass a vote to make the change permanent for no more vehicle access on the beach at Cape Kiwanda. You would have to look up the current status of that whole thing. Don't wanna misinform you guys.

Hello PNW Tacomas! I just picked up my 2021 TRD Off-Road a few days ago and wanted to introduce myself to the group. I currently live in SW Portland with my wife and 8 year old Golden Lab. We spend a lot of time exploring around OR/WA and are frequently out in the Hood River are. We both work M-F/9-5 so we only go out on the weekends. I finally convinced her that we should trade in our Subaru Forester for the Tacoma since we have been doing a lot more camping in the past few years and are just not able to carry everything we want. I am hoping to explore more trails and camp in some more interesting places now that we have a more capable vehicle. Hopefully as summer hits we can get out to some trails with the group.

I need to pick up some essentials before we head out as we do not have any recovery gear. I also want to outfit the rig with some rock sliders right away to protect the truck. Does anyone know of a local shop in Portland that you trust? I checked out the local 4 Wheel Parts shop but the did not seem very knowledgeable.

Anyway, hope to get in some trail riding soon.

Not 100% sure of the current access. Last time I was out there was summer 2019 and there were tons of cars. My buddy tried to go early last summer and the beach was closed due to covid but that was also when most of the beaches were local access only.

metaltech 4x4 in newberg is the local option for sliders.

did you go to 4 wheel parts? In my experience they suck for real 4x4 parts and tend to specialize in bigass spacer lifts to fit 24” rims on bro dozers.

Welcome aboard! I would just burn your credit cards now lol.

Jokes aside, I totally agree that sliders (I’m getting mine from MetalTech in a couple days) and recovery gear are your best bets on money well spent to start. Depending which tires you got, those would be a solid investment as well.

This is a great little sub forum and it sounds like we will eventually have some group trail runs come together whenever some of the higher elevation roads start to thaw out.

Hope you are loving the new truck!

Howdy and welcome. There are a bunch of us on the bankers hours lifestyle. Recently there was a discussion on important recovery gear and I believe shovel came in at the top of the list. So skip 4wp on that... And most other things. Although I hear if you know exactly what you want and catch the right sale you can pick up a good deal there.

For rock sliders I completely back metaltech. You can start watching the website for deals and then also save by going to pick them up. If you want any pics we can happily provide, there are lots of them installed.

I'm always happy to roll east side on a weekend with my family. I've got a winch so you can send it and I'll pull you out. For what it's worth I think we are heading up lolo pass tomorrow to see what sort of trouble we can participate in.

If I budget enough time on Tuesday to drive that far back up the coast I’ll try to swing into Pacific City and see if there is any recent intel on the beach.

Quite a few things at this point..
Were you here this weekend? I'm at my in-laws beach house with some friends up past Ocean Park. I drive the beach strip every morning I'm here visiting. I'm actually on my way right now to drive it lol. 15 miles of beach one-way :D

Yeah, went to the one in Tigard and the guy at the counter did not know what I meant when I said I wanted to make sure the sliders were DOM and not HREW. So I was not very confident in their recommendations.

Safety first for sure and then start getting some toys. The tires that came on it are decent but not great. I will definitely have to change those next.

Very nice, welcome to the pizza cutter gang. ST Maxx for me, luv 'em, once I finish the crawl box I'm headed toward those fresh Yokohamas in 315s.

Our shop is not an option for the foreseeable future; we have so many Land Cruisers in the lot, big projects, small projects, future projects, and always weeks out for any scheduled work. Suppose it's a good problem to have. I had my truck up on the lift last week, was about to change my inner tie rods, but pretty sure my rack is $%#*ed, which sucks because it's about 3 years old.

4.7 gears and couplers ordered, going with Advanced Adapters reduction case, trying to figure out exactly what other parts I need from the donor case, but since I'm not using a donor case need to order new odds and ends, frickin' madness. Going triple sticks to save my cupholders, it's going to be a long time between waiting for parts, putting it together, saving a bit more $$$ for driveline adjustments, probably saving a bit more to have my transmission rebuilt while it's out, and doing my clutch at the same time but boy oh boy, can't wait.
