Bilstein 5100’s with ome 881 coils on lowest setting, JBA upper control arms, LCE header, 31x10.5x15 falken wildpeaks.
Took my truck to Toyota to replacing leaking water pump and oil pump. While it was there I asked them to adjust my 5100’s for me to the middle setting. Well just picked up my truck and the service advisor said the tech said the shocks aren’t adjustable. Looks like I’ll do it myself then!

Did you explain how to adjust them?
If you didn’t, your average tech would look at the the struts and think there wasn’t any adjustment. If ya did tell them how then maybe they just didn’t want to deal with it, dealers generally don’t want to do modifications unless it’s pre-sale on a brand new rig..
Should have told you that though.

well with how many people have them I just assumed. No I didn’t tell them how to do it. I mean there is YouTube. YouTube that shit. How to adjust 5100’s? Oh well. I’ll do them.

A lot of people have them and have installed the coilovers themselves; the install and uninstall is simple.

Why have a dealership tech, that routinely uses something like Alldata to service cars with OEM parts, modify and/or adjust an aftermarket item they wouldn't be familiar with?

Complaint is null and void :burp:

whatever you say bud. I just think it’s pretty lame they said they aren’t adjustable. Didn’t even call me to tell me they couldn’t do it and then maybe I could have explained it. I just don’t wanna deal with it again. I didn’t like compressing them with the sketchy compressors. Looks like I might have to.

I can't be too mad at that. The service advisor probably didn't want the liability of dicking around with a 3rd party installed part.

So you put aftermarket parts on your old model vehicle and then expected the tech to know exactly what to do to adjust them just because you ask?

You're absolutely right! They could youtube it! Tell you what. I'm up in Reno, not too far. You pay me $175 an hour and I'll youtube how to do it and then do it for you. Sound good?

    Of course it doesn't...

This is on you. Don't expect a dealership to cater to your aftermarket parts.

Again, first glance it's hard to see the clip and adjustment. Especially if they're even somewhat dirty.

But also, the fact that you'd pay to have your coilovers removed, adjust to the desired clip, and reinstalled, seems like throwing money away.

Slip a $20 or $40 to a mechanic when you take your coilovers in to adjust them and you should be good to go.

Just seems like you're complaining for no reason considering a franchise dealer normally caters to vehicles with OEM parts, for jobs specified in an owner's manual or maintenance journal.

Carson City Toyota also told my girlfriend and I that the radio isn't capable to be paired to multiple phones and that doing so messes up the XM radio and other things. I was tired of dealing with their bullshit excuses so I said fuck it and am just gonna change out the shitty deck it comes with. I agree that place is pretty fucking stupid. They pretty much told me they sold me a radio that's not capable of doing what its advertised to do but didn't wanna do anything about it. Fuck Carson City Toyota.

Didn’t expect them to cater but the service advisor should have checked with them before she told me yes, don’t you think? Or call me when she found out the techs didn’t want to do it instead of me finding out when I go pick up the truck? Just common customer service right there.

You're expecting too much out of a dealership. Unless you specifically told the CS gal what you wanted, and how your suspension was aftermarket. If she said "yes, that's fine" after all that, well then I suppose that's on the dealership.

Dolan Toyota in Reno has been awesome for everything I've needed for years. Maybe Carson just sucks.

The lack of common courtesy is the only thing I can agree with here in this thread.

my exact words to her, I have adjustable bilstein 5100’s on my truck and I want to have the clip moved to the middle of the 3 settings. Is that something you guys can do? She says yes.

Don't you have to completely disassemble the 5100 in order to adjust that ring. Seems like a pain in the ass.

I know you think it’s not a big deal, but dealers don’t touch anything unless it’s from factory usually. They have even given my crap about my tire size lol

I gotta ask why you’re still taking your 23 year old truck to the dealer.

I stopped going to the stealership the minute my “free” oil changes ran out.

Why would you expect them to know how to service aftermarket parts?

I really wonder if the tech ever saw a Truck that old in his Bay.

Adjusting a aftermarket part on a 25 year old Truck written up by a Service Writer that had no idea.

OP why did you not talk to the Service Manager if you go there all the time you do know them?
