...We wouldn't see much pavement on this trip, and a gravel road would have been a much more pleasant drive than the few paved miles of Ivanpah Rd. that would deliver us to the New York Mountains. With disintegrating pavement that made us thankful for our aired down tires, we were glad to see the pavement ends sign as we crossed the tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad....

Perched atop a pile of granite, the "Mojave Megaphone" as it has come to be called, has been a mystery to many over the years. Theories abound as to its origin - perhaps related to the Tidewater and Tonopah Rail, or to military exercises conducted in the nearby valley; perhaps a test funnel for early rocket research or part of a siren to warn workers of impending danger.

It is, for certain, a strange shape to see out here in the middle of nowhere; but, it is none of those things. Here is the real story....

Hello everyone, new member, and first time commenting. Y'all are traveling and seeing some amazing things, and this thread is what made me want to join TW, after a friend told me about it. I have a 1982 Toyota pickup 4x4 that I'm currently trying to get going to hunt and overland with, pictures to follow once I get in from work and can get app. It's at the mechanic getting a once over while I'm at work (offshore GoM).

To start trusting new truck, do y'all have any recommendations for trips in Texas? Located in Waco, but off two weeks at a time. I want to do a couple of short trips before I head out west.

Best pictures I have of Toyota I'm working on. I want to make an overland/hunting truck. I picked this up from a guy in Houston, it was running but wouldn't idle, and PULLED so hard to the right I almost ran off the road on test drive. Drove and picked it up on a Monday, left for Louisiana on the next Tuesday, I ended up being offshore stuck for 5 weeks (I missed the Texas Freeze of 2021)...So other than getting an alignment done while I've been gone, haven't had much time with her. Thinking of what to name her. Suggestions?
