Not many rocks where the Arctic Trucks go, just snow and ice. The base-level builds run on stock suspension with no gusseting, with thicker 60mm Koni shocks:

So would skinnies handle better for regular winter street and highway driving as long as they are a dedicated winter tire?

I’m running dedicated winters pizza cutters 245/70r17 and they’ve been great in deep snow on the pavement. But like many said before, if you go off the beaten path it’s better to have wider tires that will ‘float’.

The 31s got stuck and the 32s got stuck
But got the 31s unstuck when the 33s showed up
But the 35s got stuck in the tractor rut
Which eventually pulled out the 33s.
    With some difficulty

We'd pull one truck out and get another stuck in
And motors would roar and tires would spin
We'd sink right down, down to the frames, and we'd all take turns and do it again
Till no one could move, we'd call one more friend
Come on out here, we need you @tacoma16 ...bring your truck

Well it was truck after truck, we all got stuck
'cept the small new 4x4 stock truck
We all thought "lord are we in luck!"
But he wouldn't come anywhere near us.
    Mighty neighborly @somebody :hattip:

So we used a lot of our backs, none of our brains
We wound out the winch lines, and snugged up the snatch block
We all did our very best to refrain from shovelin'
We put what timber ramps we had, underneath the wheels
And we was all out of traction, but managed to kickup
Two sacks worth of the best modern gravel road base you ever did see
That oughta give us some traction
    (it didn't)

but we did it. eventually we got out. But boy I was more willing to rip out half of my dashboard to pull an empty switch out to connect to a wiring harness inside the overhead panel that controls my rear locker than to air down

At 8psi, what's the chance of popping a bead?

    All depends.

How you are driving, if you get stuck or not. Many many factors come in to play.

I have yet to loose a bead, FYI. I have snow wheeled at 5 PSI for a total id say of more than 24 hours run time.

Again, driver matters. Recognizing you are at 5 PSI and what you do with your right foot and your hands at the wheel, decides what happens to your tires and those beads.

This is what I thought. I will never get off road and I find the tires I have on now do well on hard packed snow on side streets but I feel the truck rides like canoe if the roads covered.

In my experience, tire tread pattern and compound make a lot bigger difference. I've had Firestone Winterforce UV tires (budget dedicated winters) in 245/75-16 and they were crap on snow and ice-covered streets, in addition to being obnoxiously loud on dry pavement.

    Hmmm interesting...

Keep posting pictures so I can live precariously through your misadventures... (made me finally purchase an on-board compressor)

and lets hear some more how the tiny tires ruled the day!
