It will rust out pretty quickly if you are using it as a DD. Get the CRC applied at a dealer if you move up here and at least your frame is warrantied for longer but it's just a matter of when, not if it rusts through. There's a reason there are approximately zero first gens on the road here anymore.

Lot's of good camping just across the border in WI and MI, not much "overlanding".

Yeah they are but it’s all flat gravel roads unless you are by the river. It’s pretty uneventful.

Hey guys, hope all is well and new to this thread and to Tacos (or any pickup for that matter). Picked up a TRD Pro 6MT earlier this year as I really wanted a MT body on frame truck but they are slim pickings these days. Do you guys know of any spots close to the chicagoland area that I can get the truck off-pavement? Even if its not an official off-road park if there are areas that I can do it safely I would love to get it out there.

Also, if any chicagolanders ever do any meetups I would be interested in meeting some more of the Taco community.

Has anyone here used body panel cavity wax? My last truck (2018 Colorado) I took into a friends body shop and had the body cavities desalting sprayed then they used 3M system.
    https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/collision-repair-us/featured-products/cavity-wax-plus/

I am looking for a shop that has a reputation of doing this procedure.

I wanted to post here, I also post in the Michigan Taco thread. I live in NWI and thought this is probably my “localist”.

Silver lake was awesome. I went up last October. I’d be down for a GTG trip this coming summer.

It’s pretty much what we spray inside the frames for the recall.. it works assuming rust isn’t already there

I would get on the Facebook local groups around here. A lot of great info and trips and such. If you don’t have it lmk and I will put you in touch with a few people! As for off-roading around here, their isn’t much as far as legal and as far as illegal just search threw past post on different forums and remember it is probably someone’s land so be respectful!!

I drove stock tires and aired them down when I got there. They have a parking lot vehicle prep area to air back up when you drive around town.
You will need to buy a Michigan state parks pass and orv sticker plus a 12’ flag... so around $100-$150.

I do still have it. You might have to bend one hanger to fit your 2012 I believe. I’m not available today but am open all week or next weekend.

    Morning, Chi-town.

There's a potential career change for me in a few months and I wanted to get input on the area. I'm actually getting way ahead of myself on this but since it is a major life change, it is something I want to get ahead on.. I don't want to overwhelm the bossman with questions that he can't answer yet, so I'm asking y'all local folks.

Company is based in Batavia. What/where are the good/reasonable places to live?

Well, the job would be in IL, so what do you propose, Shell of Shock?
