Can anyone tell me the outer width of 3rd gen softopper? Rail to rail? I know you can kinda mount them how you'd like but just a rough idea

I really want to get into a Softopper, but I’m torn between the Black or Tan. Anyone have a pic of a Blazing Blue with a Tan Softopper?

Blue trucks look good with either color. If you live in a warmer climate, the tan might be cooler than the black in the hot summer. My black one gets the bed area pretty hot, and I'm in Oregon. Tan might also not show dust as much if that is important to you.

You should be able to scroll back through this thread and find several blue with either color.

    My pic from last summer.

If you are talking across the back (bed side to bed side). I measured 59-1/2 inches give or take a smidgen. I mounted mine going by their instructions, being a half inch off the inside of the bed rail. Hope it helps you.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. The color vrs temperature makes a lot of sense. I have scrolled and scrolled, even googled, haven’t seen a single pic of Blue/Tan

Any recommendations on where to order the softopper? Not sure if there any forum members that have the connections.

They don’t usually run sales or discounts. Your best bet is to find a good used one.

    Hi Everyone,

I've been reading on here for years but this is my first post. I've searched for this with no luck, but if it has already been mentioned in this or other threads, please direct me there. I've got a 2004 Xtracab V6.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried a third gen long box softopper on a first gen long box. I've searched that first fits on second, and second fits on third but not first on third. Has anyone tried this? I know the third gen softopper is slightly lower which shouldn't be a problem.

There is a new in box softopper for sale in my area for a third gen and I'm hoping it fits on my first gen. Thanks in advance! I'm on the fence between supertop and softopper, but if this one will fit, softopper it is!

    Steve

You do realize that 1st Gen beds are narrower than 2nd and 3rd Gens?

    Hi,

Yes I do, however I know the Bestop Supertop are the same/very similar for first and second gen, and there are forums on people putting second gen softopper and supertop on a first gen with success. I know a hard shell wont word on first vs second gen.

for the record, and for anyone else searching in the future: 2nd/3rd gens all use the same topper model from the manufacturer. there are no "2nd gen" and "3rd gen" specific models.

the design was updated in either late 2016/early 2017:
    original version was code TAC 73 (6') & TCCC 60 (5')
    updated version is code TAC 74 (6') & TAC 60/TAC 60B (5')/(5' 3rd gen curved bar).

as far as i can tell, they *used* to sell the same model for all tacoma generations, just with a different style clamp for 1st gen... so, you're probably alright, but i'd contact softopper directly for confirmation. according to this thread, they've been pretty helpful to others with similar fitment questions about second-hand toppers.

Cheap $20 after all is said and done. Tied mine into the passenger brake light. Wire taps. Pretty easy honestly. Just find which wire is the power for the brake light, then ground it, and you now have a 3rd brake light.
The LED has 3M tape on the back so I cleaned the area with alcohol and stuck it on.
Used a waterproof disconnect so I can take the topper off and the 3rd Brake can stay attached to the topper.

I should also add that all credit goes to @EatSleepTacos as it is their idea and literally the same LED that they used.

Super easy! Took me maybe 10-15 minutes total? Bright as hell, and still on there despite snow/ice/so many car washes.

I tried to peel mine off when I sold my topper and it just wasn’t happening. It’s a testament to whatever adhesive they have on there. It’s pretty strong.
