If your gonna buy gears buy revolution gears they are cheaper then Sierra or nitro by almost 100$ and they are literally the exact same gears I’ve compared them to Sierra for a tundra earlier in the week. We ordered 2 sets of gears one Sierra and one revolution after comparing side by side they are the same manufacturer just a different box and a big difference in price in fact almost 33% difference in price. The revolution install kits are also the same bearings koyo, have better shims, more of them and better silicone. Just a heads up peeps

I have set up several rear ends in my days. I got out of the business 10-12 years ago but I was a master auto tech for 20 years or so.

I misunderstand your post sorry. Yes you can down go to 5.29, anything lower than 3.90 you’ll need a new carrier depending on ratio you choose as there is a carrier break and being factory 4.10 you have the 3.90+ carrier

Your dad doesn't need new gears. He needs a v6 automatic since your description has him struggling with a manual.

Don't forget that a proper regear on a 4x4 needs both ends done.

I tried to push him towards an AT and we looked for one. Absolutely nothing available.
