It's a widely know fact that the skewp on the sport pulls the chicks. What is less widely know is that the air dam accentuates the skewps ability to pull chicks. If you take off the air dam you will still get chicks but not that same quantity or quality.

    Choose wisely.

Great thread, and great video with the Tacoma engineer! I just put on the 17” SEMA wheels with big off road tires and while it doesn’t rub, that front spoiler just doesn’t look good or look like it fits, with the rake. In the video the Toyota engineer said that the 2016 TRD Off Road doesn’t come with an air dam but my 2017 did! It’s coming off today!

How would I show off my Demon brackets and shackles without removing the air dam?

yours was a limited edition of 1 of 1.:D

I have torn the spoiler off of multiple trucks mostly chevys. The spoiler on the taco does not look so deep, so I would think unless you are doing serious off road venturing, it is a taste issue.

I took mine off the second day I had the truck, and I did not notice any change in MPG, however my driving is probably 60% local/back roads below 50mph. Now when I upsized my tires I got a thank you letter from Exxon...

Are you sure you have an Off Road as that spoiler is not a Factory piece for an one?

Lol second day and didn’t notice a change in mpg....

But yeah if there is a difference seen from what I’ve read it’s about 1 at the most. And that can easily be changed by just taking the earlier exit by accident most times.

I have an OR and I’m getting 18 winter 20 summer overall. Seems about on par with what fuelly says others are getting too so giddy up!

I did read that about the overheating but I thought that was a one off on the Colorado and it sounded like it was a single test of several dozen they run that slightly overheated but not even close to the danger zone and it was a very very VERY specific set of conditions done in a lab.

DISCLAIMER, I AM NOT A MECHANIC, I DON'T EVEN PLAY ON ON TV but...
I saw the same overheat stories, I don't really see how that can be, the dam does't direct and air up into the radiator area, I've seen quite a few folks who have also added lights in the grill area, and I would be far more suspect of those types of things causing overheats than the dam. I have always pulled those off my vehicles (sometimes on purpose, occasionally by accident...) and never had an issue.

Impossible that it will cause “overheating” without the damn dam. OR and PRO comes without and all good, also rated at the same MPGs. That thing is completely useless IMO.

I haven't put mine off yet but when I get to install that skid plate I got a month ago I believe it will require that it's goes away.

I have the skid plate. It's the same as the pro one but no logo.

I plan to do all my own maintenance once this toyotacare expires, so the air dam will definitely come off to make for easier oil changes.

The kind of girl that likes the scoop minus the air dam tends to wear a flag print bikini under her maid of honor dress, starts screaming "woooo!" after her second beer, and will immediately max out a credit card as soon as the website says "approved." If you want to leave before the bar closes on a Tuesday night, you will get publicly emasculated. Her coworkers at the Anheuser-Busch HR payroll team know every intimate detail about your sex life.

The kind of girl that likes the air dam will make you pull over and stop anytime she spots an animal wandering around on the streets. Your house is now filled with 5 rescue dogs, 2 cats, a racoon, and a baby squirrel. She rolls her eyes and refuses to speak to you for the rest of the evening if you had the audacity to order the steak at the ethiopian-portuguese tapas fusion gastrobistro. Your parents think that she's marriage material and are already pressuring her for grandkids. She hates kids. Her 3rd grade art students fortunately don't know that.

This should help inform your decision. Choose carefully.

Oh so true. It's always something. Could be why I'm single . And if my mom likes them well that's not usually a good sign.

Unlike the hood scoop on the TRD sport, the air dam is actually functional at highway speeds. It can be a hindrance off-road, so the OR does not come with it, as it would probably be considered an oxymoron.

I tore mine in ditch (small rip) but it gives me added stability and helps prevents lift at highway speeds with better mpg as a bonus.
However, just like the beautiful hood scoop on the TRD sport, some people hate it and take it off too. You would think one would choose the right model to begin with. Go figure lol!

    Also an import note:
I did not realize the ridiculousness of my statement about MPG....Questioning my numbers after one tank of gas is fair... I guess what I should say it I was getting similar numbers to what others reported getting. I was averaging between 20-21mpg before I swapped the tires.

I kept mine on because it doesn’t bother me as far as looks go and I don’t off road. If I did off-road I would take it off most likely
