I bought a TRD Sport because the dealer didnt have any SR/SR5's on lot.

Are there really any mechanical differences (factoring in I would have gotten a V6 regardless of trim). I'm not a big bells and whistle guy and wonder if I should eventually trade down

Sport's shocks and coil springs are setup for sport handling so, the SR will be smoother riding.

Sport comes standard with a couple of things. V6, LED DRL headlights, Wide Foglights, Push to start, Entune Premium, Wireless Qi Charger, Power outlet in the bed, LED cargo lights, Turn signal mirrors, SKEWP, Color Match fender flares and bumper, Sport Tuned Shocks. I believe the Sport ACLB is the only way to get a longer bed with a manual. Maybe a couple of things that I missed.

Shocks. If you are mostly pavement driving, you might like it that way, as they are a bit firmer. If you off road a lot, and want more compliance, swapping shocks is pretty easy. Take offs from ORs are not hard to find, as lots of folks feel they can design a better suspension than Toyota and change early on to aftermarket stuff.

Should and want to are very different.

If you do a true trade process, you'll lose money. A good bit.

If you can private sell your truck for close to what you paid and get a good buy on an SR, you'll lose less money.

Paying more for less? Seems like you'd have been better off to be more patient regarding the initial purchase. SRs aren't exactly oddities.

Incorrect, the SR trim offers a convenience package with painted bumpers.

My SR has color matched bumpers. What's wrong with pool boys? Is that a shameful job to have? I was a lowly paper boy. I rode a schwinn stingray with dual canvas bags. LOL

Wow. I am amazed that you bought a TRD for only the reason being there were no SR/SR5s on the lot. I mean, there is a difference of several thousand dollars here! As others have mentioned, the TRD models have many features not on the SR/SR5s so I won't repeat them here. I too, when I first had an interest in the 3rd generation Tacomas, began by looking at the SR5 model. But as I delved into the features, standard equipment, etc, I discovered that the TRD was just a better option for me. I wanted builtin navigation, and the SR models do not come with it, at least, they didn't in 2019. Oh it was on the entune, but you had to download an app called Scout on your smartphone, connect it, and basically use your smartphone in connection with the entune unit. Basically defeating the purpose of having builtin navigation! The TRD models have builtin navigation that you can use without a smartphone. I won't go into its pros and cons, as there are some cons I do not like, but at least it is somewhat good in a pinch! For me, I got the TRD Sport, because I liked the 17" wheels. Others say it doesn't ride well as it was built for sport handling. It may be true regarding the handling, but for me, as one who migrated up from my old 96 tacoma 4cylinder which had an awful ride that I got used to over the 23 years that I had it, upgrading to the 2019 TRD Sport was like a dream, as far as how it rides. I drove mine across the country from CA to NC/VA back in 2019, and I loved the ride and comfort. But as others have also said, it would be a major loss if you "downgraded" from a TRD to an SR model.

I'll blame the wife lol, She was buying a car the same day and my old car was in pretty rough shape, Now that I have it I honestly wont use many of the options and if I get to a break even point I may pull the trigger (I wouldnt trade-in at a loss though)

Yes, it comes with the scoop, which, as it comes from the factory, is only for decoration and not functional. that being said though, there are many ways to make it functional as a hood scoop, bringing in air to the engine bay, and there are also many options to put lights in the scoop too.

The TRD Sport comes with one very underrated feature that some (if not all) SRs do not have: intermittent windshield wipers.

At least in my region, all SR’s are standard 4 cylinders only available in 2WD while V6 SR’s are only available in 4WD.
