Baofeng programming is basically in reverse of other radios. FWIW, chirp is easy peasy. That’s what I used on mine. To program it manually, I have to do it while following a YouTube video.

yeah same. I haven’t used chirp before but it looks very simple. Will probably look at it this week sometime.

oh no I do want to do chirp trust me. That was part of the bundle. I wanted the external mic and a way to charge the battery via usb and a chirp cable. I got it all plus a shitty lanyard and they forgot the usb cable :notsure: but that’ll come in eventually. Just need to touch base with them, that’s the cheap and easy one to find at this point I guess.

I’ll probably pick up a bubble packer frs for a few bucks. And my CB plan is TBD. If I like it enough for road trips but not otherwise then I’ll just do a mag mag mount and handheld same as my baofeng with cb for road trips. No need day to day.

Over this past weekend while installing a front and rear dash cam, I removed my CB. The TM-V71a serves me well and I haven’t needed the 11m chatter box (1976 Kracko DeLuxe 23 channel) since I installed it right after I bought the truck new.

I have the same one installed in my truck, absolutely love it. Pretty good quality for the price.

Edit: FYI the headunit is not UV resistant so if it sits in the sun it can ruin it, warp the plastic, fade the plastic and what not. I built a little plastic hood for mine so i didnt have to worry about it.

im starting to think that’s where I’ll end up. It’s a clean install but if it’s not used then it’s just an added level of complexity that isn’t needed.

Can you post a pic? I did not think about UV damage.

I just took some UV resistant kydex plastic cut out a template and used a heat gun to bend it into place. Mine sits in my dash 24/7 so I didnt want my expensive radio having issues.

I am looking at 10 m radios. My favourite right now is the Stryker SR-89 MC. I understand it can be modified for CB, but I would never do that and I wouldn't date any girls who would.

Just wondered if anyone happens to be running one, how it's working out, and any installation details?

I have an Anytone Smart (model number here) 10/11m(?). It's been a pain with noise from my stereo amp. I'll hear the bass as staticy bumps and the best thing is it floats around to different channels..

I've tried all sorts of things, even powered the radio off a standalone battery sitting outside the truck

Anyone here have some APRSDroid knowledge? I've got two problems:

    1. My map stopped showing up. I downloaded some offline maps and everything was working fine for a few weeks but then all of a sudden it stopped showing up. This happened previously and after a few starts/restarts, it sorted itself out but not this time. I want offline maps because I want my old phone to be dedicated APRS and it doesn't have a sim card in it.
    2. I'm not automatically beaconing. It is set to do so every 10 mins, but not happening.

    Thoughts?

In my hunt for cleaning up wires - anyone know if they make one of these that connects to the SP/MIC connections on a baofeng? This looks like it's BT to a cell phone which is....cool? maybe there are apps they can use it for but I'm looking to hide wires from a baofeng when driving - this would be sweet, just a hanger/velcro to hold up just the mic and everything else can be hidden!

edit: This idiot forgot the link

    https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Mi...t=&hvlocphy=9002250&hvtargid=pla-589532089197

    Edit more:

It looks like this one does exactly what I was thinking:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/373465185160?mkevt=1&mkcid=28&chn=ps

Charges via USB, wireless mic to the baofeng sitting in my center console, which can hook up to the battery eliminator or a USB charger to the extended battery, and an antenna routed out to the outside.

That's a maybe - 50$ is more than I want to spend, I can get another radio at that point. But that's pretty cool. Hope it works, and isn't just trash.

Thanks for that, I was looking at the Anytone because I just found out that the stryker is discontinued, can't buy it for any price.

Did Android update itself? I've heard that the latest (or a recent rev) Android breaks APRSdroid. I don't know if it was ever resolved.

I was originally planning to go really thin metal that I could bend by hand but figured I could save a lot of weight with plastic and wont be hot as balls after sitting in the sun all day. So far its worked great. Only issue I have had is I over bent one side and it rattles against the head unit when driving anything washboard.

What @k8md said. My tablet doesn't have a SIM card but if it updates APRSdroid off wifi, the map will stop working and I have to reinstall it from the .apk.

As for the no transmitting your location, is GPS turned on and does the app have access to your location? Also, if you are set to 10min increments AND also have a distance in there, both parameters have to be met. I have mine set to 10 minutes and 0 miles. That way it will transmit every 10 minutes whether I move or not.

Picked up my first HF rig (991A), and most/all of my work will be in the wild. (Fucking apartment living). It came with a power supply, and I haven't bought my battery setup yet. How much RF noise will I get if I plug the power supply into my Tacoma's bed outlet and let her idle?

Why would you want to use a Powersupply when its 12vdc native?
