Explored Wateree Heritage WMA this morning. Lots of good signs of hogs and deer. Spotted plenty of turkeys too!

You guys with lifted trucks, do you have issues with lower balls joints blowing out?

I'm getting a second opinion tomorrow because Toyota told me both mine are busted, but they were replaced less than a year ago, and I don't have any of the symptoms.

mines been busted for 50k mi now. I’m pretty sure the boot blew out right after I lifted my truck. Haven’t noticed any signs of them actually going bad though.

Yeah, I got no play in the steering, no drift, nothing that would suggest busted ball joints. I may just roll with it even if the second opinion says they are.

The past year I have barely driven the truck except for one trip to Uwharrie, and I didn't even wheel hard there. Truck has been mostly parked since Covid and WFH.

I had OEM before they were swapped out last year, and I don't know what brand the shop went with. I did not have Toyota swap them. The dealership wanted my paycheck and a kidney to do it.

Jack the truck up by the control arm this keeps the ball joint loaded. Tire stays on. Jack it up enough to put a prybar or something under the tire and lift up. If it moves up and down without moving the suspension you've got a worn ball joint. Ball joints unless they are extremely loose won't show signs really in the steering wheel or anything like that.

My floor jack is rusted out, but I was going to get a new one, so this would seem like a pretty good motivator.

Yeah that would be good idea. That way also you can confirm the ball joints yourself and not have to rely on someone else.

I do. Crawling under the truck is not an option for me right now. Maybe after surgery, but that is not for a while yet, and even then I don't enjoy doing it like I do mods or other work.

Is it just that the boot on the ball joint is torn?

I'm not 100% sure since I haven't been under the truck to look. I'll take it by a different shop a little later today.
